He therefore took the oath of allegiance to the Transvaal Republic which oath - according to his own showing in this book - he broke because he was of the opinion that his duty as an English subject (a loyal one) justified that God save England from such loyalists. When he took the oath (to the Transvaal) he was already contemplating treachery and playing the spy'. Signed F. W. Reitz with further textual annotations by Reitz.
