Madrid School; first half of the 18th century."View of the palace".Oil on canvas. With stamp on the back.Measurements: 56 x 77 cm; 72 x 94 cm (frame).Urban view that the author poses in a panoramic way in order to be able to have a great view of both the palace and its gardens. In a strictly frontal way, the author conceives this image in different planes, which are superimposed, thus creating a great spatial depth, and being closed in the distance by the presence of the imposing palace. The technical characteristics of this construction could represent the Palace of Aranjuez, which was so nicknamed both for its architectural style and for the influence of the gardens in the architectural project; in fact, the artist's interest in recreating the gardens can be appreciated in this image. The image is completed by the presence of various figures strolling peacefully along the various planes, particularly the woman in the centre of the picture, whose dress is being picked up by a small servant, with the intention that the lady should not stain her clothes, which show the aesthetic influence of the fashion of Philip V's time.In terms of subject matter and technique, it should be noted that this type of image was very popular in Madrid, as it was the place chosen by the court to establish itself. The works served as ornamentation in the various palaces, representing the monarch's domains and the architectural works he had undertaken. Many examples of this type of painting are to be found in the Museo de Historia in Madrid, particularly the work of Fabrizio Castello (1562-1617).
