I am too glad that we had all of us already grown to like him so much; I don’t think we could have trusted our Missy in a total stranger’s hands… ‘, and later in reference to them going away to England, ‘… whenever you come over it will not only be to see Mr & Mrs Robinson Jr but Mr & Mrs Roosevelt Jr’,  4 pages, 8vo, creases where previously folded, light toning to final page, together with remains of original envelope address in Roosevelt's hand to 'Miss H.D. Robinson care Roosevelt & Son, 32 Pine St, New York, United States', stamp torn away, remains of Basel and New York franking stamps to both panels Provenance: This letter was written while Roosevelt was at Columbia Law School and before he began on his political career, and only months after his short-lived marriage to his beloved Alice Hathaway Lee. Alice died three years later just two days after giving birth to their only daughter (Alice Lee Roosevelt) due to an undiagnosed case of kidney failure. Roosevelt wrote a large ‘X’ on his diary page and then, “The light has gone out of my life”. His mother, Mittie, had died of typhoid fever eleven hours earlier in the same house. For the rest of his life, he rarely spoke about his wife Alice and did not write about her in his autobiography. By direct family descent from Henry Wolryche-Whitmore. See also lots 300-303. *Victoria, Princess Royal (Victoria Adelaide Mary Louise, 1840-1901). Pencil drawing of a girl in Eastern Mediterranean attire, pencil sketch on watermarked laid paper, with circular embossed Windsor Castle stamp at head, full-length portrait of a girl wearing a headdress, long tunic dress with gathered skirt, wide pantaloons, and turkish slippers, signed in sepia ink 'V. pss. R.' lower right, 30 x 18.5cm (11.75 x 7.25ins), mounted, framed and glazed Princess Victoria was the eldest daughter of Queen Victoria and Prince Albert, and was created Princess Royal in 1841. She married Prince Frederick William of Prussia in 1857, when she was only seventeen. In 1888, when her husband succeeded to the throne, she became the Queen of Prussia, and after her husband's death in the same year, she became widely known as Empress Frederich. She was the mother of German Emperor Wilhelm II. Princess Victoria was an accomplished amateur artist and the Royal Collection holds a large number of her drawings and paintings, but works by her rarely come onto the market. (1)

There are no signs of any foxing or damage to paper, however there is a piece of tape behind the glass and carefully consideration is recommended. 3. The colours are fine. 4. It does bear a pencil signature and the Fine Art Trade Guild stamp.

Laurence Stephen Lowry (British, 1887-1976)- 'St Simon's Church' Pencil signed limited edition sepia print, numbered pencil to mount '34/300', approx 38x28cm, framed. CONDITION REPORT: 1. We can't tell if it is stuck down as it is within a sealed glazed frame. 2. There are no signs of any foxing or damage to the paper. 3. It is sepia so therefore no colour, however the image is good and bold and strong. 4. It does have the pencil signature but no guild stamp, but it does have the limited edition number in pencil to the margin.

CONDITION REPORT: 1. We can't tell if it is stuck down as it is within a sealed glazed frame. 2. There are no signs of any foxing or damage to the paper. 3. The colours are ok, could possibly be brighter, but difficult to be sure without having another to compare to. 4. It has the pencil signature and the Fine Art Trade Guild Stamp.
