There are large areas of restoration to the neck, it appears it has been broken into numerous pieces and repaired some time ago. Crazing to each, wear to the gilding on each example, minor chipping to each of the foot rims. The second vase with a large old repaired chip to the neck and a repaired chip to the foot rim, there is staining/crazing to each.

The canvas tension is slightly slack and there are minor undulations across the canvas. The paint layer appears to be in a very good, stable condition with no evidence of damage or loss. The varnish is clear, semi-glossy and even. There is a light layer of dust and dirt on the front and reverse of the canvas.In general, I would say yes it is in good nic. Smith of Edinburgh on the reverse. The board is in a good condition overall. At some stage in its history the board was attached to a wooden stretcher, there are nail holes present around the edge of the painting and the shape of the stretcher evident on the reverse. The paint layers are in a good, stable condition. There are some small areas of overpaint present. The varnish is even and semi-matte with a light layer of surface dirt present.
