During the re-upholstery work the original screws securing seat to frame were maintained to insure originality. The colour so often seen on these chairs today is a faded orange however these chairs represent how they would have originally appeared in the vermillion red tweed that was specially designed not to run and stain the guests clothes should there be a downpour! 4,000 of these chairs were produced for the Prince of Wale’s investiture in 1969. Lord Snowdon’s design was manufactured by disabled workers at the Remploy factory in Bridgend. Guests at the ceremony were invited to purchase their chairs after the event and for £12 received their chair flat packed Ikea style for them to reassemble.
