[Almeyda (Emmanuel de; Emmanuel Diáz & Guiliano Baldinotti.] Lettere dell` Ethiopia dell` Anno 1626 fino al Marzo del 1627 woodcut device to title library stamp to title verso occasional browning modern vellum gilt [Cordier Sinica 816] 8vo Rome Bartolomeo Zanetti 1629. *** The letters in this work include Almeyda`s Ethiopian relation (1627) Diáz`s Kiatim China (1626) and Baldinotti`s Macao (1591-1631). Baldinotti gives an important early account of Vietnam and the Jesuit mission there. Emmanuel Diáz (1559-1639) of the Society of Jesus arrived in China in 1615 was exiled to Macao following the persecutions at Nanking in 1616 and was sent back to Peking in 1621. Nominated Vice-Provincial for China in 1623 following the death of Jean de Rocha he held this position during the 1630s working throughout southern China in particular at Jiangxi and Fuzhou and finally Hangzhou where he died.
