A FINE POLYCHROME TERRACOTTA BUST OF THE VIRGIN, AFTER NICOLÒ BARABINO (1832-1891) BY FRIEDRICH GOLDSCHEIDER, VIENNA, CIRCA 1890. The finely sculpted bust of the veiled Virgin resting atop an integral shaped base, the front with relief sculpted image of the Nativity. Verso with impressed Friedrich Goldscheider studio stamp and numbers, as well as incised on the base "d’apres Barabino". Height 16.6 inches (42 cm).Nicolò Barabino was an Italian painter of the Neoclassic School, active in Florence and Genoa. He is probably best known for his painting of the Virgin of Peace also known as the Madonna of the Olives, after which the offered lot is modeled.
