A pair of circa 1900 Austrian cold-painted bronze figures of a cockerel and hen by Franz Bergman, each with glass eyes and bearing Bergman vase stamp CONDITION REPORTS Height of cockerel approx 28cm, height of hen approx 23cm. Both with wear and scuffs and some losses to the painted decoration, and quite a lot of losses to the red decoration to the combs. Some denting and mis-shaping to tail feathers. Some losses and flaking to decoration throughout. Some scratches. Some darkened areas around the legs, so it is not known whether they may have been some repairs to these areas.

Having reached the summit Simpson fell during the descent causing horrific injuries. Yates attempted to lower him down in stages on a rope but he slipped over an edge and Yates, unable to pull him up, had to make the appalling decision to cut the rope. Thinking Simpson was undoubtedly dead Yates returned to camp but after three days, just as Yates was about to leave the area, Simpson crawled into camp.

Latin AmericaColombia1861, 2½c. black, ample even margins all around, very fresh used on fragment, tied by red "0" numeral handstamp being also applied on the paper of the fragment at left, either used fiscally or less probably paying a judicial correspondence, with adjacent "De pago por doña Dolores González" in manuscript stating a payment charged to the person mentioned in this note; (the fragment was probably preserved as a receipt with the stamp denoting the fee paid). According to the postal rules, 500 francs was the highest possible rate to be paid with stamps, with this document consequently exhibiting the largest possible franking of this adhesive.
