Barbados 1938-47 set, study of the printings on outsize leaves (328 mint stamps, of which the great majority appear unmounted) from Bob Hill’s exhibited collection. The introductory run-through includes ½d perf 14 and 1d red perf 13½ x 13 unmounted, then blocks of 4 with ½d perf 14 (top pair hinged) and 1d red perf 14 and 13¾ x 14. ½d perf 14 with two further unmounted shades and 1d red perf 13½ x 13 also two further unmounted shades; throughout the study a stamp has been allocated to every printing listed by Potter and Shelton and while these are not guaranteed correct, every effort has been made in this direction. We also note a 1d green perf 14 coil strip and 10 imprint blocks of 8, also the first 1/- in a part-imprint block of 4. An important collection. SG 248-56a (£2039)/CW 1-24

Barbados 1953-61 definitive set in unmounted mint Plate blocks of 4. 4ct with Plates 1-1, 1a-1a and 2-2 blocks; 6cts Plate 1 and 2; 12ct with all three listed shades in Plate 1-1 blocks. 1ct block with a bend, 4ct Plate 1-1 block with one stamp having a short corner, otherwise very fine. SG 289-301 (£419)
Bermuda 1921 Second Tercentenary 6d, fine used showing ‘C’ omitted from watermark; the adjoining ‘A’ just overlaps the edge of the stamp. There is a minor water-stain coincident with the area of the variety, which is a shame with such a rare item (which is unpriced used). SG 72a (£1200 mint)
Bermuda 1946 (Dec.) £1, fine CDS-used with HPF #11. Also shows a flaw in the left value tablet which we confidently believe to be an early state of FF #11, the ‘White Island’ (there was no further printing of the £1 value until November 1951, on which the ‘White Island’ occurs). Ex Wong (Christie’s Robson Lowe October 1990, ex Lot 138 where it was described as having ‘the start of FF 11, the ‘White Island’). With BPA Certificate as this printing, confirming the position but not mentioning the value tablet flaw; and an article from Sixth Sense #42 giving details of this stamp and another confirmatory example. SG 121c/CW 16d
Lagos 1904 10/- green and brown, watermark Crown CA, used with part of the scarce (J)ebu O(de) CDS Proud D3. No question of authenticity here; Jebu Ode (or Ijebu Ode) was under Lagos administration until April 1906) but there is a greasemark (?) at top which may be treatable. A rare stamp properly used. SG 53 (£900)
Montserrat Officials. 1983 $1.50 on $5 Diana’s 21st Birthday. Unmounted mint top marginal strip of 3 divided by interpanneau label. Left stamp with surcharge normal, adjoining stamp with bars wholly omitted and the rest of the surcharge partially so; the right stamp without overprint. Small mark on the back of the second stamp as if from a malfunctioning press. Unlisted. SG O61 var.

St Helena 1937 1½d deep carmine-red, mint with some colour show-through on reverse, R5/1 cleft rock and ‘stern wave’ flaws, the latter constant on this printing only. A small dark mark at lower right and there has been some minor flaking of the surface but still an acceptable example of this scarce stamp. SG 99ec (£950)
St Helena 1972 2p Silver Wedding, unmounted mint cylinder block of 4 with inverted watermark, top right stamp with ‘tie pin’ flaw, lower left stamp with scar on neck and patch on shoulder. Also a single example with a yellow flaw above the Queen’s head, also showing inverted watermark. SG 289a (£145)
