Photograph by Dorothy Wilding and signed by her in pencil to the lower mount. Signed by Lawrence in bold white fountain pen ink at the base of the image, 'To dear Sir Kenneth, In all sincerity, Gertrude Lawrence D.F.A.' and dated 1948 in her hand. CINEMA: A printed folio script for The Ladykillers, being a second draft script amended, comprising 106 pages bound in paper wrappers bearing the typed date 25th February 1955 and with the stamp of the Scenario Department of Ealing Studios Ltd, together with a similar printed folio script for The Cruel Sea, being a revised shooting script, comprising 157 pages bound in paper wrappers, dated 7th March 1952 and also originating from the Scenario Department of Ealing Studios Ltd. Also including a printed 4to edition of an Ealing Studios staff magazine for February 1950 and further including a printed script for The Return of the Soldier individually signed by Ann-Margret, Glenda Jackson, Julie Christie, Alan Bates, Ian Holm and three others. LAUREL STAN: (1890-1965) English Film Comedian. A.L.S., Stan Laurel, one page, 4to, Kenilworth, Warwickshire, 16th August 1952, to Alan Evans, on the printed stationery of the Chesford Grange Hotel. Laurel apologises for not having received his correspondent's letter earlier, explaining 'so was unable to let you know that we would have been pleased to have had you visit us back stage' and adding 'However, we hope you enjoyed the show.' Laurel has added Laurel & Hardy in his hand beneath his signature. Accompanied by the original envelope (stamp torn away with an area of paper loss) hand addressed by Laurel and bearing a colour vignette of the duo to the verso above the return address ('Garrick Theatre, Southport, Lancs') also in Laurel's hand. CALLAS MARIA: (1923-1977) American-born Greek Soprano. Vintage signed and inscribed 10 x 12 photograph of Callas standing outdoors in a three quarter length pose wearing a fur coat and holding a large bouquet of flowers in her arms. Part of an aircraft can just be seen in the background. Signed in blue fountain pen ink to the lower photographer's mount, 'To George A. Fuchter, with best wishes, Maria Meneghini Callas' and dated 1957 in her hand. Contained in the original plain presentation folder bearing the credit stamp of Associated Newspapers Ltd., London, to the verso. Some foxing, largely to the outside of the presentation folder, and a little to the edges of the photographer's mount, only very slightly touching Callas' inscription and signature. G

OMDURMAN BATTLE OF: An unusual printed folio proclamation, comprising over thirty lines of text in Arabic, with a small circular official stamp at the foot, annotated and signed in fountain pen ink at the base by Reginald Wingate, in full, 'Proclamation from the Khalifa Abdulla to “all the Faithful” enforcing on them to rise for the Jihad. Taken in the Khalifa's house in Omdurman, after the Battle of Khartoum on 2. Sep. 1898'. Some light overall age toning, otherwise VG Reginald Wingate (1861-1953) British General and Administrator in Egypt and the Sudan. Governor-General of the Sudan 1899-1916 and High Commissioner in Egypt 1917-19. Abdallahi ibn Muhammad (1846-1899) Sudanese Ansar General and Ruler, also known as The Khalifa. His attempt to create an Islamist military dictatorship led to widespread discontent and his eventual defeat and death at the hands of the British. The Battle of Omdurman took place on 2nd September 1898 when an army commanded by British General Sir Herbert Kitchener defeated the army of Abdullah al-Taashi. Part of the War of the Sudan, the Battle marked the success of British efforts to re-conquer the Sudan.
MONTGOMERY B. L.: (1887-1976) British Field Marshal of World War II. Wartime A.L.S., B.L. Montgomery, General, Eighth Army, one page, 8vo (folding Air Mail Letter Card), n.p., 22nd April 1943, to John Thomas. Montgomery thanks his correspondent for their letter and remarks 'I do not think we have ever met.' In concluding he sends his regards to his correspondent's mother and father. With blank integral leaf (laid down). Hand addressed by Montgomery and again signed ('B. L. Montgomery, General, Eighth Army') to the verso across a feint censor stamp. Some light overall age wear and a few small tears to the folds, not affecting the text or signature. G

Pierre Jules Mene, a 19th century cast bronze group of a huntsman and dog, he is dressed in formal hunting attire with sword at his side, holding a branch of oak leaves, the dog is on the scent and straining at its harness. Impressed signature and Susse Foundry stamp and incised mark, 47 x 36cm on an integral stepped oval plinth.
A Chinese famille rose lidded bowl and saucer, decorated with colourful panels depicting figures and script, the base marked with red Daoguang stamp, height 12 cm. CONDITION REPORT: Excellent detail, the main bowl in good condition, not damaged, the lid with tiny nibbles around the central raised area, gilding slightly rubbed, the base saucer with a repair and two hairlines.
