A tortoiseshell veneered slope front needle box, 19th century of canted form with red lined interior, 5cm high, 3.5cm deep, 3.5cm wide and a small Tunbridge ware stamp box, Victorian, the cover inlaid in the style of a stamp with the young head Victoria within decorative surround and rosewood sides, 4cm x 3.5cm x 3cm (2)
Wuttermberg 26th Dragoons M.15 NCO’s Worn Bluse, an ultra rare tunic worn by a Senior NCO of the 26th Wurttemberg Dragoon Regiment. Standard M.15 construction, deep turned back cuffs, two front flap pockets, 1915 rear skirt, six button fly front. The shoulder boards are fitted with the wartime subdued motifs of the 26th Dragoons with crown above, each board surrounded by frayed NCO’s lace matching the frayed NCO’s lace to the apple green collar, the collar is also fitted with its Wurttemberg rank discs. To either sleeve two strips of NCO lace, loops to the breast for two awards with three loops for a medal ribbon bar above. To the interior lining there are clear size stampings, army corp markings of ‘B.A.XIII’ (Army corp 13) date ‘1915’ with a further regimental stamp of ‘DR.26’ within a rectangle. All nap of cloth excellent. A small area of minor moth nips to the lower front skirt. This tunic is part of a much larger group found by Michael Baldwin to the same NCO. As shown on page 122, 123, 124 and 125 of Feldzug 16.
Prussian Identified 1907/14 74th Regiment Enlisted Mans Tunic, a fabulously rare tunic being the model 07/14 constructed in field grey issue quality cloth, large size, virtually free of moth, all buttons original to the tunic and untouched, complete with its marksmanship lanyard, slip-on shoulder boards for Regiment 74. to the interior there are profuse markings, firstly Army corp 10 with a date ‘1915’ with marked ‘B.A.X.1915’ (Army corp 10) which is the matching army corp markings for the shoulder boards. Below the markings there is an oval stamp for Oldenburg with size stamps below, further down the inner lining is a regimental stamping of ‘O.J.R.91’ which is for Oldenburg Infantry Regiment 91. Within the pocket of the tunic when the tunic was discovered in Germany in the 1970’s an original shoulder board of Oldenburg Regiment 91 was found with an enamelled pin indicating the coat of arms of the Oldenburg Infantry Regiment. Also within the pocket is a hard card booklet with a 125 page short history of Oldenburg Infantry Regiment 91 with the owner’s original name tag ‘Musketier Boger 1st Company’ which we have to assume is the name of the owner of this tunic. Also within the booklet there is a photograph of Boger wearing this tunic in its form as a member of Infantry Regiment 74 with which we assume his wife. The tunic is featured on pages 64,65,66,67 and 69 of Feldzug 15 with fully explanatory diagrammatic photographs how Michael Baldwin has been able to identify the tunic worn in the photograph found in the regimental book to the actual tunic
Bavarian M.16 Depot Issued Enlisted Mans Bluse of the 3rd Infantry Regiment, a magnificent huge size Bavarian issued bluse, which unlike the Prussians were designated M.16’s with the collar of the same material as the main body of the jacket. Nap of cloth overall good, totally free of any moth damage, fitted with the stitch-in shoulder boards with red chain stitching indicating the Bavarian 3rdInfantry Regiment, other standard configurations of deep turned back cuffs, M.15 style skirted back, large size stampings to the interior plus army corp stampings of ‘B.A.I.’ ( 1 st Bavarian army corp) clear large date of ‘1916’ and a further regimental stamp of ‘3.J.R.’ (3rd Infantry Regiment). As shown on pages 108, 109, 110, 11 of Feldzug 16.
WW1 German Other Ranks Issue Riding Breeches, a beautiful pair of the enlisted mans riding breeches used by all arms of service, profusely stamped to the waist band army corp marked ‘B.A.IX’ (army corp 9) ‘1915’ with a separate ‘1915’ date and a unit rectangular stamp of ‘T.A.9’. Standard configuration, two side pockets with provision for button closure, both buttons missing. Excellent nap to cloth overall, no moth damage. At some time in the trousers life the trousers have been slashed in the crotch area and have been hand sewn repaired.
Model 1910 Enlisted Mans Straight Leg Trousers, a good and rare pair of model 1910 straight leg trousers in steel grey, which have been modified for easy wear with jack boots, the lower part of the legs have been slightly narrowed and shortened, both exterior seams still having their red 1910 pattern strip. Adjuster belt in the waist. Depot patch repair in the crotch area with evidence of moth damage. Size stamping to the upper inner waistband with original owner’s name indelibly marked to the fly area. Also profusely stamped with army corp marking ‘B.A.XVIII’ (Army Corp 18) plus the date ‘1918’, also a French costumier company’s inventory stamp.
Early Enlisted Mans Breeches, a set of early 1907/8 field grey green breeches, complete with their leather inserted seat, which were worn by mounted artillerymen and later by all arms of service. Open angled side pockets with closure buttons, large waist adjuster strap to the waistband, two moth holes below the right hand pocket, good nap to the cloth overall, all original buttons complete, profusely stamped to the light cotton interior lining, clear date ‘1911’ size stampings and an unidentified regimental unit stamp within a rectangle.
Wood Ribbed Fighting Knife, an excellent example of the wooden slab sided ribbed fighting knife. Blade very good with faint traces of the Imperial acceptance stamp to the forte. The wood grips excellent, in its original black painted scabbard with at least 90% of the original black paint remaining. Leather belt loop and hilt closure strap all complete with the male/female closure stud system working correctly.
Imperial German Ersatz Bayonet, one of the many variations of all steel hilted ersatz bayonets of WWI. Good untouched single fullered blade with Imperial acceptance stamp to the forte. Faint remains of field grey paint to the hilt. Scabbard down to base metal but with age toning. Complete with original frog, which is clearly maker marked and dated ‘1916’ with attached NCO’s knot. Some damage to the base of the frog.
M.15 Version of the M.08 Drivers Cap, a super example of the M.15 driver’s cap. Good nap to the field grey green cloth, olive drab soft crushable peak with matching chinstrap. Minor moth nips to the crown. Blue central band for Prussian train troops, complete with both national and state cockades. It has the clothing depot stamp of the 4th Corps in the form of ‘K.B.A.IV’ as shown on page 158 of Feldzug 15.
Imperial German M.15 Drivers Peaked Cap, a magnificent condition lightly worn driver’s cap, all nap to body excellent, no moth damage, red centre band, a black peak with a lighter field grey green leather strap. To the interior profusely stamped with a maker’s stamp, depot issue stamps of the 4th Corp marked ‘K.B.A.IV’, stamped size ‘55’. Manufacturer’s stamp of ‘Ebert’ to the interior, complete with both its national and Prussian State cockades. Shown on page 120 of Feldzug 15.
Bavarian Field Artillery Regiment Depot Issued Feldmutze, a very nice condition large size stamped ‘58’ feldmutze. No moth damage, good nap to the cloth, black centre band with red piping, correct national and state cockades fitted. The interior lining is heavily stamped with the size followed by ‘B.A.J.1916’ (army repair depot) with Regiment stamp “11.F.A.R.” As featured on page 28 of Feldzug 16.
Bavarian 21st Regiment Enlisted Mans Pickelhaube and Trench Cover, a very good large size Bavarian all leather pickelhaube with all matching brass fittings, original chinstrap, national and state cockades complete. Beautiful condition to the interior of the helmet. All leather liner intact without any tongues broken. Interestingly the black japanned plate that is normally located to the interior of the helmet is placed on the outside as quite commonly happens. Original leather wedges intact. Bavarian front plate. Complete with its field cover with the green numbers ‘21’ to the exterior. To the interior of the cover it is stamped ‘B.D.III (Bavarian army Corp) 1915’ with a number ‘3’ stamp, which would indicate a size to match the helmet. Complete with all its attachment hooks. One small area of damage to the cover close to where an attachment hook would have originally been but is now missing. This helmet is featured on pages 4 and 5 of Feldzug 15.
Prussian Enlisted Mans Pickelhaube, an absolutely superb condition very large size (58) Prussian enlisted ranks leather pickelhaube. The body is superb, all peaks strong, all of the fittings toned brass with a slightly brighter Prussian front plate. The front strap is absolutely mint, complete with its national and state cockades, unusually the national cockade is of the non serrated variation normally found on a Saxon and sometimes Wurttemberg helmets but very rarely on Prussian helmets. The helmet has been constructed again with the japanned black plate that normally sits on the inner side of the skull, it has been assembled underneath the circular spike base to the exterior of the skull. The inner liner all complete near mint with its mint drawstring. Ink stamped to the interior ‘58’, clear date ‘1915’ with Berlin manufacturer’s stamp. Army corp marked to the interior of the rear peak ‘B.A.IV.’ (Army Corp 4). The condition of this helmet would be very difficult to surpass.
Prussian Enlisted Mans Pickelhaube with Field Cover, a good large size, possibly 57 or 58 all leather pickelhaube with brass fittings as issued to an enlisted man in Infantry Regiment 95. Good helmet shell with slight crazing and slight sinking to the crown area, complete with Prussian front plate, its original strap, national and state cockades, interior liner all complete and supple with its original leather drawstring, beautifully marked with rubber ink stamp to the inner rear peak to Infantry Regiment 95, this was the 6th Thuringen Infantry Regiment. Fully photographed and described on pages 138 and 139 of Feldzug 15.
Prussian Enlisted Mans Army Corp Marked Pickelhaube, a good huge size stamped size ‘58’ all leather bodied pickelhaube with field grey fittings, issued to a soldier within a Prussian regiment of army corp 7. The skull is excellent, both peaks fit firmly to the body with all chemically grey fittings matching including the strap fittings. National and state cockades in place. The interior leather liner all complete and supple with its original drawstring. A large manufacturer’s ink stamp to the interior with the size stamp of ‘58’. In two areas of the rear back peak identical army group markings within a rectangle of ‘B.A.VII’ (army corp 7) with date ‘19’ with the last number obscure on both dates, which Michael Baldwin has deciphered as 1915. Profusely photographed on pages 142 and 143 of Feldzug 15.
Baden Infantry Enlisted Mans Pickelhaube, an excellent condition field grey fitted pickelhaube with leather skull for an unidentified Baden Infantry Regiment. The skull is perfect, both peaks securely attached by stitching to the main body with its original leather chinstrap with field grey fittings. Both the national and state cockades are fitted. To the interior the complete leather liner still with good mid tan colour, its long leather drawstring still intact. Stamped size ‘56’ to the interior with evidence of one previous wearer and another name of ‘A.Huber’, a small circular manufacturer’s inner stamp to the crown.
Very Rare Paper Cloth Constructed Officers Pickelhaube Helmet Cover, profusely photographed and described on page 15 of Feldzug 17. A company manufacturer’s stamp of ‘Vorn’ to the interior of the front peak of the cover and the remains of lacquer where the helmet cover has lain upon the helmet in heat. A good heavy duty item.
Outstanding M.17 Camouflage Trench Helmet, ET64 size shell, camouflaged to the exterior in the green, maroon, ochre and brown camouflage with black separation lines, virtually all of the finish intact. To the interior two of the three pads only remain and both are with their inner horsehair pads, the remains of the third pad is laying within the bowl of the helmet and complete with its original chinstrap. A good manufacturer’s name and date stamp of ‘1916’ is on one of the leather pads. This helmet is on the front cover of Feldzug 1918 and a full description on pages 80 and 83.
Very Rare M.18 Ear Cut Out Helmet with Remains of Camouflage Paint Finish, it is extremely rare to find a camouflage M.18 ear cut out helmet, this example is clearly marked ‘ET64’, as all of the ear cut out helmets are, with the faint remains of its camouflage finish, which has been applied over the rare original flock finish. Both armoured plate attachment lugs have been plugged with wood as quite commonly encountered. To the interior all three of the light cream liner sections remain with all of their tongues. Two have their inner horsehair pads remaining, one is missing and complete with its M.1918 chinstrap pieces, one of which is completely detached from its strap post. The unique carbine clip strap featured only on M.18 helmets has the faint remains of its manufacturer’s stamp and a clear date of ‘1918’. The faint remains of a paper post home label is visible, this is affixed to the inner rear skirt. Featured on pages 142,143,144 and 145 of Feldzug 18.
