Im Vordergrund wässert eine junge Frau weiße Bettlaken, daneben spielt ein Kind. Im Hintergrund staffeln sich Häuser mit roten Dächern und die imposante gotische Nikolaus-Kirche von Meran zu Füßen einer gewaltigen Felsabbruchkante, dem Küchelberg.Ein Motiv mit scheinbarer Alltagsidylle. Aber dieses Gemälde wäre nicht ein Meisterwerk von Spitzweg, wenn nicht eine Botschaft, eine Geschichte, in diesem Kunstwerk stecken würde:Die auf dem ersten Blick so leicht mit der Gießkanne hantierende junge Frau leistet in Wirklichkeit Schwerarbeit. Denn gleich nach dem Waschen wurden zu dieser Zeit die gewichtigen Wäschestücke unausgewrungen auf dem Gras ausgelegt und mit der Gießkanne ständig feucht gehalten, damit die Sonne die Stoffe strahlend weiß bleichen konnte.Die abgebildete Magd läuft also immer wieder zum Bach, der an der Stadtmauer entlang rauscht, um die Gießkanne erneut für ihre Tätigkeit zu füllen. Gleichzeitig passt sie auf das neben der Wäsche spielende Kind auf und verscheucht die Katze, die womöglich noch mit ihren Tatzen über die frischen Leinen läuft. Am Ende der Stadtmauer schlendert scheinbar uninteressiert ein Wachsoldat in Uniform. Allerdings sammelt er offensichtlich gerade seinen ganzen Mut. Soll er die junge Frau ansprechen?Beide sind so in ihrer Welt versunken, dass sie nicht bemerken, wie das ganze Geschehen vom viereckigen Wohnturm der Stadtmauer aus genauestens beobachtet wird. Hier beugt sich eine Gestalt genussvoll aus dem Fenster und betrachtet neugierig den Fortlauf der Geschichte.Und schon hat Spitzweg uns Betrachter in die Bildgeschichte hineingezogen. Wir genießen die wunderbaren Details seiner künstlerischen Handschrift, die handelnden Personen, die genau bestimmbaren Pflanzen, die Darstellung des südländischen Städtchens Meran innerhalb der Stadtmauern, das muntere Licht-Schattenspiel. Und gleichzeitig amüsieren wir uns über die versteckten Andeutungen des Künstlers. For at that time, immediately after washing, the weighty pieces of laundry were laid out unwringed on the grass and kept constantly damp with the watering can so that the sun could bleach the fabrics brilliant white.So the depicted maid keeps running to the stream that rushes along the city wall to fill the watering can again for her job. At the same time, she keeps an eye on the child playing next to the laundry and shoos away the cat that may still be running its paws over the fresh linen. At the end of the city wall, a guard soldier in uniform strolls seemingly uninterested. However, he is obviously gathering all his courage. Should he approach the young woman?Both are so absorbed in their world that they do not notice how the whole event is being closely observed from the square residential tower of the city wall. Here a figure leans out of the window with relish and curiously watches the story unfold.And already Spitzweg has drawn us viewers into the pictorial story. We enjoy the wonderful details of his artistic handwriting, the characters, the precisely identifiable plants, the depiction of the southern town of Merano within the city walls, the lively play of light and shadow. CONDITION REPORT The Romulus and Remus ornament is missing a foot. The jardinière has some nibbles to the edging. Minor rim chips to the remaining ceramics. The paper parasol is in reasonable condition.

Berlin" der bekannten Berliner Buchbinder-Werkstatt von Otto Pfaff und Otto Dorfner. Maße der Mappe ca. 43 x 33,5 cm. Die Ecken etwas bestoßen, die Kanten und Flächen teils berieben.Einliegend drei Blanko-Doppelbögen persönlichen Briefpapiers mit Hoheitsadler, Namenszug "Adolf Hitler" und "München, den" in Goldrelief sowie drei Blanko-Kuverts.Anfang Mai 1945 von Siegfried F. Brand, damals Angehöriger des US Military Intelligence Service, T-Force, innerhalb der US 7th Army, in Hitlers Wohnung am Prinzregentenplatz erbeutet.Dazu eine notariell beglaubigte Bestätigung sowie zwei ebenfalls beglaubigte Fotobestätigungen Brands aus dem Jahr 1977 für den damaligen Käufer Ben Swearingen.Zudem ein signierter Brief Albert Speers aus dem Jahr 1977, in dem er Swearingen aus seiner Erinnerung heraus die Zuschreibung dieser Schreibmappe an Hitler bestätigt, außerdem in Fotokopie ein Artikel über die Arbeiten Otto Pfaffs und Otto Dorfners aus "Die Kunst im Deutschen Reich", Ausgabe Juni 1942.Provenienz: Sammlung Malcolm Willits (1934 - 2019), verkauft durch Hermann Historica in der 43. Auktion, 19.10.2002, Los 5280, Zuschlag € 14.000. Erworben durch Willits 1994 von Ben Swearingen, dabei Korrespondenz zwischen den beiden und eine Fotokopie des Schecks über $ 12.500.Zustand: II -Hitler's personal writing case from his Munich apartment on Prinzregentenplatz 16/II The large-format, lime green leather case with a gold-embossed national eagle, also outlined in gold, on the cover. Lined in cream-coloured linen, a document compartment on the inside on the left, the right side with two thick sheets of blotting paper. A barely legible embossed stamp "Pfaff ... Berlin" on the back for the famous Berlin bookbinding workshop of Otto Pfaff and Otto Dorfner. Dimensions of the folder approx. 43 x 33.5 cm. The corners somewhat knocked, the edges and surfaces scuffed in places. Inside are three blank double sheets of personal writing paper with the national eagle, the inscription "Adolf Hitler" and "München, den" in gold relief, along with three unused envelopes. Seized by Siegfried F. The oval plate bears the national eagle with folded wings over "RK" on a raised border, on the bottom the manufacturer's stamp "Wellner" - "120", dimensions 64 x 42.5 cm. Lot includes the very rare draining insert bearing the national eagle, "RK"-monogram and manufacturer's stamp "Wellner" - "36". Matching cloche showing a national eagle with somewhat broader, spread wings, well-known from Hitler's personal silverware, also with "RK"-monogram for the Reichskanzlei. The movable handle is stamped "NS WMF 50", the inside of the cloche is struck "Württ. Metallw. Fabrik Geislingen-Steige" (tr. Württemberg Geislingen-Steige Metal Work Factory).
