[48], CLXI, [1, blank] for the first volume and ff. XLIII for the second one.Title-pages printed in red and black, woodcut headletters. Each volume contains a large woodcut illustrating Justinian among his counselors.Exceedingly rare (almost a ghost) and sumptuous edition of Baldo’s commentary on Justinian’s Infortiatum (also called «Pandects») and on Digestus Novus. This edition contains the annotations of the Italian lawyer Benedetto Vadi (Fossombrone, 16th century) and the French jurist Jean Thierry (Langres, fl. 1517-1531).The Infortiatum was the name given to the rediscovered part of Justinian’s Digest (or Pandects). This part, which commences with the third title of the twenty-fourth book, and ends with the thirty-eight book, was thus called because it was the middle part, which, it was said, was supported and ‘fortified’ («infortiatum») by the two others. It treats of divorce, tutela, testaments, heritages, successions, substitutions and other important matters.Provenance: Nobiliary ring stamp (not identified) at first title-page.References: Both ICCU and CNCE 27388 locate only a copy in Italy (where the book was printed) at Biblioteca Diocesana in Ivrea. OCLC locates no other copies in worldwide public libraries. Minor traces of use, but a very good copy printed on extra-strong paper.

General - World : Green IDEAL World Collection Classic issues to 1915 - about 2 years ago regular bidders may we recall that we offered a beautiful Art deco covered IDEAL or similar high quality album - strong in classic issues with particular emphasis upon foreign classic issues rather than British Empire. This collection attracted considerable attention from collectors - who requested verbal telephone condition reports, and sold first time offered at reserve which was several thousand pounds. Usually we break this type of collection and the one that we offer here is especially suitable, but the most enjoyable aspect of this volume is that it is perhaps equally as strong in classic British Empire to 1915 as it is in classic foreign. This time we observe strong mint/used ranges - probably up to several thousand stamps in total and unusually the collection appears surprisingly intact with hardly a stamp missing - or tell-tale hinge. On a quick flick through we notice good GB ranges including reasonable 4 margin 1d black and Hong Kong 1891 `Jubilee` 2c carmine original gum catalogued £475. The album in reasonable condition could even be continued rather than absorbed into an existing collection. Huge catalogue value and condition generally above average - even includes some reasonable ranges of China, and unusually strong British Empire mint/used ranges. An opportunity unlikely to be repeated for some time. HEAVY LOT - OVERSEAS BIDDERS PLEASE ENQUIRE FOR SHIPPING COSTS.
