A LATE 18TH OR EARLY 19TH CENTURY FRENCH MODEL NAVAL SIEGE CANNON AND FRAME, 10inch five-stage barrel with ring turned flared muzzle, plain trunnions, the spherical cascabel with rope loop, mounted on its iron bound carriage with iron bound dished spoked wheels, the whole surmounting a multi-wheeled mechanical cradle or scaffold, this stamped MUSEE DE L'ARTie and with further collection number 0.504 and a retailer's sticker for Antonio's Antiques. Believed to be naval and to have been designed for use in Napoleon's invasion barges in the late 1790's. The stamp and collection number refer to the Musee De L'Artillerie in Paris.

Darstellungs- und Papierformat 11,7 x 7,4 cm. Meder 7b. Schoch/Mende/Scherbaum 49. - Das 5. Blatt der Kupferstichpassion in einem klaren Druck auf feinem Bütten. Pilatus empfängt Christus in der Eingangshalle seines Palastes. Dieser wird von zwei Schergen grob gepackt und zu ihm gezerrt, Kaiphas steht im Hintergrund und deutet auf den Angeklagten. Hervorstechend ist jedoch die Begegnung zwischen Pilatus und Christus, der eine mit verschattetem Gesicht, der andere mit zweifelnder Miene. Christus überragt den Stadthalter deutlich, wodurch auch seine geistige Größe ausgedrückt wird. Auch die Architektur spricht für die Situation. Der Stadthalter steht in dem engen Architekturraum neben einer breiten Säule, während sich über Christus das hohe Gewölbe erhebt. Diese hervorragende Komposition läßt die herrliche Bildsprache Dürers glänzen. - PROVENIENZ: Mit 2 Besitzerstempeln: M. J. Enfield proofed smoothbore barrel, barleycorn front-sight and fixed vee rear-sight, swivel rammer hinged at muzzle, the lock stamped with the Crown V.R. cypher on the tail and '1863.67 / ENFIELD', to the centre, together with both the W.D. small crown arrow ownership stamp and the East India Governments 'I' small arrow acceptance mark, regulation brass mounted full walnut stock, the buttplate of a pattern unique to this carbine covering just the heel and toe the centre section being chequered, the right side of the butt stamped with an Enfield first class inspection roundel, fitted side rib and ring on the counter lock side.

ARMS CO. / CHICOPEE FALLS / USA 1856' on the tail, the primer cover marked 'MAYNARD'S PATENT', iron mounted one piece walnut stock with butt-plate and patchbox, the butt stamped for 1st class, much original fading finish to barrel.
