Daniel Halpin – ‘TOX’ (British, b. 1985)Tox09 (pink), 2009Screen printSigned and dated in pencil, with gallery blind stamp (Souled Out Studios)Professionally framed and glazed76 x 56 cm (30 x 22 in)Daniel Halpin, also known as Tox, is a British graffiti writer. He has found fame for adding his tag, always simply the word Tox followed by a number indicating the year, in a very large number of locations across the London Underground network and walls around London and Glasgow.  The notorious graffiti vandal hit the headlines in 2011 when he was convicted of a string of spray paint attacks across England between 2007 and 2010. His TOX 'tag' covered trains, buses, bridges, walls and even a funeral home. At his trial, the prosecution mocked him for being 'no Banksy' because he lacked the necessary artistic skills.  In a deliberate reference to his plight, Banksy created a London as work depicting a young boy creating bubbles in TOX's name on a wall. The piece, that was situated on the corner of Jeffrey’s Street and Kentish Town Road, Camden, was within walking distance of where self-styled 'King of the Taggers' Halpin lived. Some believe the hitherto unmasked Bristol-based Banksy, who has never been convicted for his 'art', was making light of the 'amateur' efforts of the convicted criminal. Others think the piece was a tribute to the TOX tagger, who at the time was detained in prison. This lot is also sold subject to Artists Resale Rights, details of which can be found in our Terms and Conditions.

James Cauty (British, b. 1956)4th, 5th & 6th Class Stamp of Mass DestructionGiclee printsSigned and numbered 48/150 in black penWith gallery Certificate of Authenticity 70 x 61 cm (27.5 x 24 in) each oneThe 4th, 5th and 6th Stamps of Mass Destruction were issued in 2004 to mark the continuation of the “War on Terror”, and also withdrawn from sale after threat of legal action by the Royal Mail.Over a diverse and productive career Cauty has distinguished himself as a musician, record producer, artist and cultural provocateur through fusions of high art, low art and popularist mediums to spectacular effect. As a teenager Cauty drew the intricate multi-million selling Lord of the Rings poster for British retailer Athena. With Alex Patterson as The Orb and with Bill Drummond as The KLF and the Justified Ancients of Mu Mu, Cauty co-wrote and produced a string of global top ten hits. As The K-Foundation, Cauty and Drummond staged a series of seminal actions including the 1994 K Foundation Art Award for Worst Artist of the Year and the K Foundation Burn A Million Quid. From experimental sonic weapons (the Advanced Acoustic Armaments), to anti-Iraq war postage stamps (Stamps of Mass Destruction), and model making (Riot In A Jam Jar and the Aftermath Dislocation Principle) Cauty’s work combines dissent, cultural subversion and gleeful level of high humour. His roguish and voluble approach has earned him a cult following for work that remains radical, responsive and darkly comical. He produces work that draws on and responds to contemporary culture, sampling it and selling it back as recoded realities. In 2013 Cauty completed The Aftermath Dislocation Principle (ADP), a vast 1:87 scale-model landscape (equivalent to 1 sq mile in miniature) which has been completely looted, destroyed, burnt and is devoid of life apart from 3000 or so model police that attend this apocalyptic aftermath. In 2015 the ADP was installed in Banksy’s Dismaland in Weston Super Mare. This lot is also sold subject to Artists Resale Rights, details of which can be found in our Terms and Conditions.

Number 236 of 500, fresh to market after 12 years of single ownership. The original Ford Sierra RS Cosworth was the first Ford to wear the Cosworth badge and was presented to the public at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1985. It was introduced as a means of homologating the Sierra for 'Group A' Touring Car racing, with a requirement that 5,000 cars were built and sold. Launched for sale in July 1986, and based on the three-door Sierra body-shell, it was designed by Ford's Special Vehicle Engineering (SVE) and was powered by a Cosworth-designed 2.0-litre turbo engine of now-legendary repute. At this time, the Sierra Cosworth was a new kind of performance car - a 'blue-collar hero' able to humble true sports cars!In total 5,545 cars were produced - of which 500 were sent to Aston Martin Tickford for conversion to the Sierra 'RS500 Cosworth'. If the RS Cosworth was a homologation car, the RS500 was an evolution special. Once Ford had built the requisite 5,000 RS Cosworths, 'Group A' rules allowed an upgraded 'evolution' model to be launched. This could carry changes focused on improving its racing potential, provided Ford sold 10% of the original number as road cars, hence the 500. The RS500 was announced in July 1987 and had a mechanically uprated Cosworth engine (more similar to the one to be used in competition), with power boosted to 224 bhp, upgraded brakes, modified bodywork and the cachet of being hand-assembled - the RS500 really is the ultimate 1980s Fast Ford!A500 EVO was first registered as OC 9198 on 1st September 1987 and supplied by Gordon Ford of Colwyn Bay to a Mr O. Cerefice from Rhyl. Chassis 236/500 retains its original engine and gearbox and remains finished in black, one of the only three colours available. Since 2010, it has been professionally stored by our vendor during his ownership and has seldom been used. The history file, with service and maintenance records, invoices and MOTs confirms the indicated mileage of 60,002 as genuine. The car has spent several lengthy periods off the road but regularly maintained as corroborated by the 10 main dealer service stamps in the record, with the last stamp at 54,996 by John Grose Ford Centre and the most recent maintenance was completed at 58,044 by David Coe of Auto Engineering Centre Performance & Tuning Specialists in Swansea. The car's overall condition is wholly commensurate with its age and indicated mileage, and with recent careful ownership and sympathetic recommissioning, including a full detail and ceramic coating, all of which is documented online. Chassis 236/500 is supplied with its original service book, handbook, audio book, UK V5C, spare keys and, pleasingly, Cherished Registration, A500 EVO, is included within the sale. An early inspection is welcomed and encouraged to acquaint yourself with this super Cosworth. SpecificationMake: FORDModel: SIERRA COSWORTHYear: 1987Chassis Number: WF0EXXGBBEGG38644Registration Number: A500 EVOTransmission: ManualEngine Number: GG38644 Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 60002 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: Grey FabricClick here for more details and images
