A good mirrored pair of Japanese Meiji period Satsuma Vases having Shimazu stamp marks to the base, the maker possibly Nikko Yama, the bodies decorated with trailing dragons/ serpents and numerous moustached men depicted, some holding a scroll, against a background with seas and mountains and highlighted with an abundance of detailed gilding, 14 1/2'' tall approx.
An undated archaistic agate stamp seal matrix with stepped profile and knop handle, incised border surrounding a scene of a winged god(?) with khepesh sword holding up the hindleg of a slain bull, with winged bird-headed figure assisting. 154 grams, 61mm (2 1/2"). Property of a Hampstead gentleman; from his family collection formed since the 1970s. [No Reserve] Fine condition.
Published 1705 AD. With title page 'A Faithful Abridgment of the Works of that Learned and Judicious Divine, Mr. Richard Hooker, in Eight Books of Ecclesiastical Polity and of all the other Treatises which were Written by the same Author with An Account of his Life by a Divine of the Church of England, London, Printed and Sold by Benjamin Bragg at the Blue Ball in Avemary Lane, 1705 (Price Five Shillings)'; hardback 19th century half leather by J. Mantle, Bookbinder, Midsomer Norton, with his stamp to inside back cover. 405 grams, 18.5 x 13cm (7 1/4 x 5"). Property of a Kent, UK collector. Richard Hooker (1554-1600 AD) was perhaps one of the most influential clerics of his time and Izaac Walton (of The Compleat Angler fame) was his biographer; his 'Laws of Ecclesiastical Polity' was first published from 1594 (books 1 to 4) and thereafter, with the final three published posthumously. His work is still studied today and did much to establish the Anglican church; he was Rector of St Mary the Virgin in Bishopsbourne, Kent where he was buried and bequeathed the sum of 'three pounds of lawful English money' for the building of a pulpit in the church. Good condition; spine rubbed and hingeas weak, paper browned.

dating: 1879 provenance: England, Round, rifled, 14.7 mm cal. barrel with adjustable rear sight and fore-sight; bolt of the first model without spring and with extractor, provided with various stamps so as the barrel, test-bed stamp as well; forward spring lock marked 'C. G. BONEHILL 1879', with stamp and crowned 'E.I.G.'. Wooden, full stock with brass mounts, iron barrel brackets and ramrod. Butt-plate marked 'B.N 6 R.T 670'. length 139.5 cm.
dating: 1871 provenance: Papal States, Short, round, rifled, 11 mm cal. barrel, with octagonal base, marked with Liege test-bed stamp, 'SCV', different stamps, date '1871' and serial number '19716', rear and fore-sight; bolt and frame marked 'SCV'. Wooden, half stock, the butt with stamps 'DRESSE LALOUX & CIE LIEGE' and keys of the State of the Church, marked also 'U 832'. Iron mounts and saddle ring. length 101 cm.
