Inspiration for the decoration of this bowl is most likely to be found in the work of the seventeenth-century Safavid artist Mu'in Musavvir. CONDITION REPORT: Minor dents to top lappet border. Tarnish and minor surface scratches otherwise in good original order.

Leopold was first married to Charlotte of Wales who died after giving birth to a stillborn son. By this marriage, Leopold was made colonel of the Dragoon Guards from 1816 to 1831. The 13 other of more popular subjects are written by different amateurs. Translated in Italian by the writer, bookseller and publisher Nicolò Zoppino ("Nicolò di Aristotile de Rossi detto lo Zoppino"), illustrated with several nice woodcuts. The first edition of this digest was published in 1525. Reisch (Wurtemberg (?)-1523 Freiburg) was prior of Saint John the Baptist at Freiburg in Breisgau and confessor to Maximilian I. Fine (1494-1555), a French cartographer and astronomer, taught mathematics at the Collège de France. His preface to this edition is dated 1523. Illustrated with about 20 full-page woodcuts (the creation of Eve, the wheel of fortune, anatomy of the eye, studies in perspective, allegorical representations of the septem artes liberales...) and various in texto engravings concerning anatomy, astronomy, music... Nice historiated initials and 6 neat woodcuts in the text depicting decisive moments of Bruno`s life like his journey to the Chartreuse Mountains. Those xylographies are partly based on the cycle of Urs Graf in the Basle edition of Bruno`s life. The fact that Badius rarely illustrated his works, contributes largely to the importance of this very fine postincunable edition. Contains also a translation of Xenophon`s principles on the same subject and a dissertation on the ancient chariot and "its application to real service in war" by Thomas Pownall. Illustrated with 2 frontispices (the first figuring a centaur and the second in mezzotint by William Baillie showing a man trying to hold a horse), 15 plates on single leaf figuring horses having belonged to famous historical characters (Darius, Trajan, William the Conqueror...), equipements and technics of training, 1 head and 1 tail piece with a horse in a medallion.# Biogr. univ.
