The Principals of Light and Color: Including among Other Things the Harmonic Laws of the Universe, the Etherio-Atomic Philosophy of Force, Chromo Chemistry, Chromo Therapeutics, and the General Philosophy of the Fine Forces, Together with Numerous Discoveries and Practical Applications. New York: Science Hall, Babbit & Co., 1878. First edition, two hundred-and four photo-engravings and in-text illustrations, four full-page colour plates, ownership signatures to preliminaries, purple ink stamp on title-page reads, 'The New York College of Magnetics, E.G. Babbit, M.D., Dean, New York', the authors work makes large claims for his chromotherapy, in which baths of coloured light are said to have a broad range of application, original decorative brown cloth, gilt, 8vo. Edwin Dwight Babbit (1828-1905) was an American physician,spiritualist, and early promoter of Chromopathy. He was awarded a degree, Doctor of Magnetics, from his own New York College of Magnetics, a private correspondence school which closed when its charter was revoked in 1893. Babbit became a major influence upon Theosophy, and his theories of colour therapy and fine forces wove a web of science and occult speculation.Condition Report: rubbing and marks to boards, corners and spine ends rubbed and bumped with some loss to head and tail of spine, a few joints cracked, toning to edges affecting leaf edges, with occasional light foxing.

Inner part with leather sweat-band and black silk cap. Complete with feather. In its original box covered with red leather, it can be opened both from above and from the front, lined with red silk and with the stamp of the seller 'Bertoni Milano'. Very rare. height 31 cm.

Brass hilt with large quillon with rain guard featuring remains of a non-legible mark and stamp 'H93'. Guard with two loop-guards, the third one is missing, the main one stamped 'HN.86'. Grip of square section with old leather covering and brass wire binding. Slightly damaged and with missing parts, signs of use and time. Short square cap. dating: 1851 provenance: Belgium, Octagonal, rifled, 12 mm cal. barrel (clean bore, clearly visible rifling), the first part engraved with patent 'ADAM'S PATENT', provided with foresight and sight; five-shot cylinder with mark of the Liege test bench, marked with 'M' under crown and serial number '57xx'; frame engraved with borders engraved with geometric motifs, with patent's stamp and date 'ADAMS 1851 PATENT', marked with 'M' and same serial number, cartridge rammer. Trigger guard and butt-plat engraved en suite, the latter with primer case. With remains of antique browning on the surface. The external spring on the left side is missing. Knurled wooden grip. Mechanism working in single action. length 36 cm.
