Rae Walton signed special standard cover RAFES SC11aA. Sqn Ldr Rae Walton MC AFC TD was flying the Liberator Mk 1 AM924 when it got badly damaged after being intercepted by three Me 109 fighters, the plane was ditched into the sea, the remaining crew used emergency dinghies and eventually made landfall in Lofoten Islands, Norway. After evading a German soldier they escaped into the mountains and after considerable help from Norwegians they crossed the mountains and reached safety in Sweden. 80 Norway stamp with Sola 4050 1. 9. 75 postmark. AVM Donald Clifford Tyndall Bennet CB CBE DSO RAF was an Australian aviation pioneer and bomber pilot who rose to be the youngest Air Vice-Marshal in the RAF. Wessex XR500 Crew double signed RAFES SC21b cover, Escape from Hong Kong. 30c Hong Kong stamp and Hong Kong 40, 20 NO 77 postmark. Flown in Wessex HC 5, XR 500 of No 28 Squadron from RAF Kai Tak, to a position over the Government Stadium, Happy Valley, Hong Kong, from where it was dropped in a free fall parachute descent by the Red Devils as part of the Pageant for the Hong Kong Commemoration of the Queen's Silver Jubilee. The drop was made at night into the Stadium from a height of 4500 ft. Parachuting time 2 mins 15 secs of which 1 secs was in free fall. Good condition Est.
