Traces of engraving to blade with gilt filling. Steel hand forged basket with heart cut outs to the panels. The crossguard with traces of Armourer's stamp. Steel low dome pommel. Wooden ribbed grip with silver wire woven top and lower bands. Grip with some damage. Steel with overall pitting and one grip bar damaged. Vendor states sword was removed from a thatched roof of a 17th century cottage which was being reroofed in the 1970's.

Polished wooden slab grips with some cut notches and wear. Grip frame, trigger guard, body and cylinder numbered '475'. Loading gate stamp '216'. .44 rimfire series was introduced in 1875 with its own serial number range of 1 - 1,863 which was made in 1880.
