A .58 Calibre Model 1861/63 Needham conversion American service rifle, 30inch sighted barrel fitted with rear leaf sights, stepped lock converted from percussion using Needham's Patent and stamped with the Eagle mark, BRIDESBURG and 1863 across the tail, full stocked with regulation steel mounts, ramrod lacking. This type of rifle-musket was used by the Fenians during their Canadian raids, also bears NIGER COAST PROTECTORATE stamp to the butt.

Dirk, lacking two acorns from grip and scabbard leather parting. (2)

Research included with the pistol notes that pistols of this pattern and bearing the P1 stamp are attributed to the lake area of Victoria and that presumably P2 denotes an adjoining area, the research also notes of the association of that area with the Eureka Rebellion.

Internal pockets for the stamps very clean and with mint stamps 'as found' 1/2 to 1/- mint!! The green inset and eight or nine wise words above letter - wording excellent, on the envelope with worn envelopes.
