§ Margaret Mellis (British 1914-2009) 3 Boats; orange and ultramarinesigned, titled and dated March 1961 to the reverse; the reverse also bearing studio stamp and opus referenceoil on board51 x 61.5cmThere is an overall layer of dust, grime and some scattered accretions across the surface, and would benefit from a clean. There is some flaking to the paint layers and some loss of pigment, particularly at the corners and along the edges - most notable at the top corners. At the top right hand edge there is a small network of very fine cracks to the paint layer. There also appears to be a small area of paint loss to the central blue field, though it is no apparent how much of this is intrinsic to the artwork. Painting comes from a private collection.
