dating: 20th Century provenance: California, Impressive structure covered with black leather, richly chiselled with floral motifs, the pommel covered with silver foil and finely engraved with floral motifs in the front part, the band of the cantle decorated en suite. All the other elements in leather, engraved en suite and decorate with numerous, silver plates and rivets, engraved with floral motifs, the long stirrup's covers featuring in the center a gilded horse's head on a medallion. Saddle-pad in red fabric with white-black border. Girth. A pair of iron spurs covered with silver foil, engraved with floral motifs on the external part and provided with a lozenge-plate in red gold, black, leather laces with silver mounts decorated en suite with the saddle, the buckles and some golden mount adorned with small rubies, silver star-rowels with nine tips. Bit with 'U' mouthpiece, guards and crossbar covered with silver foil engraved with floral motifs, stamp 'BOHLIN MADE HOLLYWOOD CALIF.' and 'STAINLESS STEEL' inside. Bridle with black, leather reins with silver mounts decorated en suite, an element marked 'HOLLYWOOD SADDLERY. Engravings for 'FROLICH SILVER SADDLE RANCH'. Birmingham History Interest: Original architectural plans relating to the Day Continuation School in Bournville, Birmingham (the school was opened in 1925 to continue the education of young Cadbury workers), two sheets, hand-coloured, with attached documentation/notes bearing signatures, The Council of the City of Birmingham, 1937. Winchester College.- Stevens (Thomas Horton, student at Winchester College, 1755-71) The Order of Morning and Evening Prayer, sentences of Scripture, or more, to be read by the Minister, autograph manuscript signed and dated at end, title and headings in longhand and text in shorthand, 248pp., text ruled, slightly browned, ink ownership inscription on front free endpaper "T.H. Lowth Winch: Coll:", Phillipps manuscript 2720 with ink stamp on free endpaper and pencil class mark on front pastedown, original reversed calf, corners bumped and rubbed, paper label "2720" Phillipps no. at tail of spine, edges uncut, 8vo, Winchester College, 1768.⁂ A poignant manuscript indicative of the Christian faith promulgated at one of England's leading public schools. Stevens died at Winchester College in his sixteenth year, and the volume is next recorded as being owned by Thomas Henry Lowth (1754-78), a fellow pupil from the same year. Lowth, the son of a famous bishop of London, became a student and fellow of New College, Oxford, before dying young himself in 1778.

Alps.- Brockedon (William) Illustrations of the Passes of the Alps..., 2 vol., first edition, large paper copy with proof plates on india paper, 96 engraved plates by E. Finden & others after Brockedon and 12 maps with route supplied by hand in yellow, all on india paper and mounted, each with small unobtrusive blind-stamp of artist's initials at edge, engraved general map (foxed), wide margins, some foxing (occasionally heavy) but mostly to text, plates generally clean but for marginal spotting, some staining to text from pressed leaves, bookplate of Oscar V.Viney, contemporary blue cloth, morocco spine labels, uncut, rubbed and slightly stained, spines faded and worn at ends, [Neate B170; Perret 0723], folio, 1828-29.⁂ Brockedon (1787-1854) was a painter who travelled through the Alps by numerous different passes nearly sixty times during his research, originally with the idea of tracing Hannibal's route. The work was issued in several different formats; this appears to be Neate's issue of "Royal 4to proofs on India paper" but it has very wide margins and is larger than usual (c.440 x 295mm.).

Ireland.- Echard (Laurence) An Exact Description of Ireland, first edition, 5 folding engraved maps, brown damp-stain to lower margin through approximately half the book causing many leaves to become brittle with some loss of text and affecting 2 maps, embossed stamp "Lisnamandra Cavan" to front endpapers, contemporary sheep, rubbed and scuffed, [Wing E142], 12mo, Printed for Thomas Salusbury, 1691.⁂ Rare. Seemingly no copy at auction since 1988.
Ireland.- Mullen of Dublin Binding.- Hardiman (George) The History of the Town and County of the Town of Galway, first edition, large folding engraved frontispiece and 10 plates (2 folding), some slight browning, ink circular stamp of Henry Thomas Coghlan on title, silk moiré endpapers, handsomely bound in contemporary full green straight-grain morocco gilt decorated covers and spine, signed twice in gilt by George Mullen on the fore edge of each cover, g.e., in a modern cloth box, 4to, Dublin, 1820.
Ireland.- Brown (John, Vicar of Newcastle-upon Tyne) An Estimate of the Manners and Principles of the Times, first Dublin edition, slightly browned, contemporary calf, gilt ornate gilt stamp of the Hibernian Academy on both covers, slightly rubbed, 12mo, Dublin, G. Faulkner, J. Hoey and J. Exshaw, 1757.
A rare Edwardian cased silver & Scottish hardstone napkin ring, Joseph Cook & Son, Birmingham, 1908, the ring inlaid with red, blue, grey & brown hardstone/granite slivers placed within scroll & geometric design, flanked to both sides with bright cut foliate decoration with central circular vacant cartouche, the silk tartan covered box opening to reveal a green velvet pedestal lining, the silk cushioned inner lid with Glasgow retailers stamp, gross weight 0.48 tr.oz.* Condition: Napkin ring near mint condition, outer box tartan lining with damage.
Russell Brockbank (British, 1913-1979) - an original motor racing / rallying cartoon illustration, depicting a group of rally cars speeding past The Rest & Be Thankful' country pub, an angry resident leaning out of the window with fist raised, for The Daily Express, indian-ink and body-colour on wove paper, signed, with clipping of the published newspaper cartoon pasted verso, titled 'There is a hooligan fringe, but the sport is growing', with notes of publication date, 7th Nov. 1964 and Stock date stamp, the drawing 4 3/8 x 14in. (11.1 x 35.5cm.) plus margins, unframed, two tears and some creasing to right hand edges.* Condition: Vertical fold to centre. Two 2½in. tears to upper and lower edge to right hand side and some creasing, dirty smudges and a small tear to right hand end of paper. Some white overpainting and ink corrections to centre (around bonnet of the Rover P6), showing corrections to the original drawing by the artist, plus a few smaller corrections elsewhere. Old tape adhesive line to left hand margin verso.
A French patinated bronze model of the Venus de Milo, late 19th century, cast after the antique by the Barbedienne Foundry, mid-brown patination, inscribed `F.BARBEDIENNE FONDEUR` to the base with 'Reduction Mechanique' stamp to reverse, 18½in. (47cm.) high.* Condition: Good colour and patination. Tiny casting flaw hole to right hand lower edge of robe. No other faults noted.
A fine quality cased set of silver art nouveau fish-servers, French, c.1890, the heavy cast handles with floral & foliate design, gilt metal blade and tines, with bright-cut floral decoration, the original case with retailers stamp to inner lid.* Condition: Servers in excellent condtion, case fair with edge wear and age related wear.
An Edwardian silver desk stand, with arched calendar top, pen rest and inkwell (glass missing), four stamp boxes, 5in. (12.7cm.) high.* Condition: Faded numbers on disc, the right pen rest stand is loose and turns round, backing with wear, shallow dings throughout, hallmarks rubbed. Inkwell glas is missing.
A 1930s tea set, the yellow ground decorated with stylised trees, comprising a tea pot, five tea cups, six saucers, five side plates, a milk jug and sugar bowl, height of teapot 9.7cm, height of teacup 5cm. Condition report: Small chips to two plates, hairline visible only on inside of teapot base, no back stamp.
