Noel Chanan [b.1939]. Through the 1990s photographer and film-maker, Noel Chanan, spent some weeks each year travelling India, creating two folios of photographs. The first was in conventional 35mm format, while the second was shot on a Russian Horizon 202 panoramic camera. Its wide-angle, motor-driven lens, rotating through an angle of approximately 100 degrees on exposure, produces a unique perspective. In 2000 the two folios, comprising 120 images, formed the inaugural exhibition at Bristol's British Empire & Commonwealth Museum. Subsequent venues included the Royal Albert Museum, Exeter, Exeter University and the Julia Margaret Cameron Museum on the Isle of Wight.
