Eric Williams was an English writer and former WWII RAF pilot and POW who wrote several books dealing with his escapes from concentration camps, most famously in his novel The Wooden Horse. Sqn Ldr C E McCormac signed RAF escapers special cover SC14bA6. 10c Singapore bird stamp postmarked Philatelic Bureau Singapore 20 Apr 76. McCormac was captured and interned at Pasir Panjang two days after the fall of Singapore. He was told, along with others, where to find a boat and when finding it, they ran into a Japanese patrol and in the ensuing clash, seven of the party were killed with eight remaining who flew the boat and found themselves at the Mallaca Straits where they were machine gunned by two Japanese Fighters. Only four survived this attack, McCormac being one of them. They were picked up 24 hours later by a Royal Netherlands Air Force Dornier. RAF WW2. Good condition Est.
