Provenance: purchased at Christie's, South Kensington, Vesta Cases, Tuesday 15 September 1998, lot 17. The Scientific American was founded by Rufus M. Porter, inventor and publisher in 1845. However, the last edition was published in 1890, which may have resulted in this commemorative vesta being produced.
