ǂA FINE CASED PAIR OF 30 BORE SILVER-MOUNTED PELLET-LOCK PISTOLS BY CHARLES MOORE, LONDON, NO. 948, LONDON HALLMARKS, 1824, MAKER~S MARK E.B. with browned twist octagonal swamped barrels fitted with silver bead fore-sights on a gilt sunburst, inlaid with a gold panel of elaborate symmetrical foliage towards the breeches, struck with the serial number beneath, ~CM~ and with no proof marks, case-hardened breeches inlaid with two gold lines, struck with gold-lined maker~s patent stamp, serial number and with platinum plugs, engraved case-hardened breech tangs decorated with symmetrical foliage and border ornament, signed engraved case-hardened locks numbered on the inside, fitted with bolt safety-catches, engraved sprung gravity stops released by a spur on the base of the hammers and with rollers and platinum rondels, engraved spurred hammers with blued springs retaining the strikers, figured walnut full stocks, finely chequered butts, full silver mounts comprising numbered trigger-guards with pineapple finials (silver marks rubbed), oval pommel caps, moulded ramrod-pipes, vacant escutcheons, and barrel bolt escutcheons, horn fore-end caps, and horn-tipped ramrods, one with iron worm enclosed in a threaded brass terminal, and remaining in very good condition throughout: in an early Continental exotic hardwood case inlaid with a brass foliate panel on the outside of the lid (small cracks and losses), the interior with an early, probably original, green velvet lining, and complete with accessories comprising rare copper pellet dispenser by C. Moore, numbered 795, of flattened form with circular ratchet cover and blued spring, two-piece moulded iron nipple wrench, turnscrew by Colquhoun & Cadman, brass three-way flask by Sykes, oil bottle, rammer and bullet mould, and each pistol with brass inventory tag numbered ~94~ 10 cm; 4 in barrels The present pistols are adapted from the design patented by Westley Richards in 1821. Another pair of pistols built on the same system by this maker are preserved in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (Acc. No. 19.53.108). The absence of proof marks may suggest a continental or Royal commission.

A French Sevres style porcelain and gilt metal mounted mantel clock, the eight day two train bell striking, movement stamped for Japy Freres and with further stamp or retailer's mark for Villard, the dial bearing inscription for Leroy A Paris, the arched case surmounted by an urn with swags of fruit, the inset panels decorated with a child holding a bird, and with further birds and flowers, Sevres-style mark within, 48cm high overallCondition Report: Movement is complete and in working order however a service/clean is advised. The dial has some chipping around the left hand winding hole and some slight wear to the other otherwise appears in good condition. The case is in good condition with the only visible fault to the porcelain being a small firing fault to the lower left hand corner of the front apron panel. A Late George IV/Victorian solid satin birch circular centre library table, the top with moulded edge above four scrolling outswept supports, on castors, the underside of the top and one leg stamped 'VR, O, COBURG COTTAGE, MARCH, 1873', 72cm high, the top 132cm diameter Provenance; Christie's London, lot 189, June 15, 2000. The stamp relates to The Royal Estate of Osborne, in East Cowes, Isle of Wight. Coburg Cottage was built by H. R. H. Prince Albert for Queen Victoria as a birthday present in 1852. Christie's footnote detailed the history that this table was "almost certainly supplied to King George IV, and by descent to George VI, by whom given to the vendor's father, a landscape gardener at Royal Lodge Windsor, to replace furniture lost when his house was destroyed by bombing in 1940".Condition Report: Marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age and use. Some old chips and splits. Some fading. Evidence of old worm. Some additional dark scratches to the top. The legs with the expected additional knocks and scuffs from use. A late 19th century French ormolu and patinated bronze clock in the Louis XV style, Raingo Frères and Defreville, the case of ornate scrolling form with addorsed Bacchic cherubs flanking white enamel dial inscribed Raingo Frères Paris, twin train movement striking on a bell, movement with circular Raingo stamp, case, movement and pendulum numbered 1175, inscribed Defreville to the underside, 75cms wide, 52cms high. Although apparently unsigned the design of the clock is in the manner of one of Defreville's leading designers and bronze fondeurs Henri Picard (fl. 1831-1864).Condition Report: The movement is complete and in working condition although a service/clean is advised. The dial has a repaired chip to the right hand winding hole a light surface scratch to the centre otherwise is in good condition.
