18TH CENTURY ITALIAN SCHOOL "The Holy Family with attendants, a figure in the background holding a sprig of lilies, a further sprig spilt upon the floor", oil on copper, unsigned, bears later stamp and inscription verso "BY697 - Lot 108 18 6 82", housed in an early carved giltwood and gesso frame with dragon scale and guilloche carved decoration CONDITION REPORTS Has areas of flaking throughout especially evident on the top edge and to Mary's arm and sleeve. There is dirt and paint marks all over, areas of surface scratching. There is an area of flaking which is black but doesn't appear to show any touching up under UV in line with Jesus' foot underneath the blue of Mary's skirt. Craquelure and crazing throughout. Wear and tear conducive with age and use. The frame has heavy worm, flaking to the gilding, cracks showing throughout, especially in the joins - see images for more details. 27 cm x 21 cm. There are numerous losses of paint across the picture. The worst affected areas are concentated mainly to the top part of the painting and the top right. There are numerous accretions and what appear to be flecks of white paint, scuffs, scratches and paint loss across the picture. Appears to be quite dirty. The frame has areas of gilt loss, scuffs and scratches, dents and loss to the gilding. The entire frame shows signs of old woodworm - see images for details.. Image dimensions are 25 cm x 19 cm approx.

Some greying and discolouration, some foxing occuring, some dark brown marks, mainly to the border. Some foxing to the actual picture. Frame coming apart and in need of restoration or attention. General signs of wear and tear throughout.

PRESLEY ELVIS: (1935-1977) American Rock ‘n’ Roll Singer. A good vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of Presley in a head and shoulders pose. Signed in blue ink to a clear area of the background ‘To Bobbie, Elvis Presley’. The signature is a touch light in places although perfectly legible. Inscribed to Bobbie Briggs, president of a fan club associated with Presley and bearing her official name and address stamp (‘The Dixieland Rock ‘n’ Rollers EPFC, Bobbie Lynn Burchfield, Pres….’) in Miami, Florida to the verso. An attractive signed photograph with a good association. Some very light, extremely minor wrinkling to the image and a couple of very small, minor stains to the upper edge of the left border, otherwise VG Provenance: The present lot is accompanied by a 3.5 x 3.5 candid photograph of Presley standing outdoors in a half length pose signing the photograph for Bobbie Briggs and is also accompanied by a letter of provenance stating, in part, ‘The photo was obtained from a fan club president named Bobbie Briggs. The photo was autographed for her on August 5, 1961 in Florida while Elvis was filming his movie Follow that Dream….she snapped a photo of him signing the actual photograph….’ Also included with the lot are a copy of a fan club newsletter written by Briggs entitled ‘Three Days with Elvis in Crystal River’ and a photocopy of an article by Briggs entitled ‘My Trip to Elvis Land’ which was published in Movie Teen Illustrated in May 1964, the former recounting her meeting with Presley when the photograph was signed on Saturday, 5th August 1961, in part, ‘As I waited in front of Elvis’ villa at the luxurious Fort Paradise Hotel, I could still scarcely believe that I was actually in Crystal River and about to see Elvis at any moment…..We were all standing around, day-dreaming about Elvis, when suddenly – there he was!!! Elvis in the flesh!....He looked indescribably delicious!....He began autographing pictures. As he walked closer towards his car, he stopped in front of me. I had never been so close to Elvis and I was utterly speechless!....He began humming “On Top of Old Smokey” as he signed the pictures etc., I had given him. I was standing just staring into his eyes…..I was still in a state of emotional delirium when I reached Miami. And I am still…..’

Signed Airmail cover featuring images of a Zeppelin and a Lufthansa aircraft, with a red typescript annotation 'Mit Luftschiff "Hindenburg" nach Nordamerika' above two German postage stamps, postmarked Deutsche Luftpost Europa-Nordamerika, 18th May 1936. Signed in bold black ink with his name alone to a clear area of the cover. Together with S.W.A. Scott British Pilot. Signed Airmail cover for the first flight by Provincial Airways from Plymouth to Southampton, featuring a 3d. commemorative stamp for the Westcountry Air Service. Bearing the pencil annotation Rec 2-4-66 to the verso, in the hand of a collector. Accompanied by the 12mo printed compliments slip of the Private Secretary of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. VG, 2
CHURCHILL WINSTON S.: (1874-1965) British Prime Minister 1940-45, 1951-55. Nobel Prize winner for Literature, 1953. Vintage signed 4 x 6 photograph, the image depicting Churchill seated in a half-length pose at his desk within the Cabinet Room of 10 Downing Street. Photograph by Walter Stoneman and bearing his credit stamp to the verso. Signed ('Winston S. Churchill') to the lower photographer's mount and dated 1950 in his hand. The signature and date are faded although still legible. Irregularly trimmed to all four edges and with two small water stains to the edges of the photographer's mount, neither of which affect the signature or date. Together with a T.L.S., Elizabeth Gilliatt, Churchill's Private Secretary, one page, 8vo, London, 14th June 1950, to Mrs. Glanville, being the original letter that accompanied Churchill's photograph, and stating, in full, 'Mr. Churchill has heard from Mr. McCorquodale that you are celebrating your 100th birthday tomorrow, and he has asked me to send you the enclosed signed photograph of himself, with his best wishes. He learns also that you are a staunch supporter of the Conservative Party, which pleases him very much. Mr. Churchill hopes you will have many more years of good health and happiness, and he thanks you for your support of the Party he has the honour to lead.'
