A French gold,ruby and diamond crescent brooch: the central row of graduated round old brilliant and rose-cut diamonds between rows of oval rubies, the diamonds estimated to weigh a total of 0.45ct, the rubies estimated to weigh a total of 1.1cts, the brooch catch with French eagle head control mark, the pin with similar stamp and maker's stamp 'SS', 55mm long overall, 7.5gms gross weight.
Harry J Johnson [1826-1884]- Hampstead Ponds under construction:- inscribed and dated Hampstead 1850 bottom left faint studio stamp bottom right watercolour over pencil drawing 17 x 39cm, together with a Claude Hayes watercolour landscape and another watercolour by John Gendall and one other landscape watercolour by another hand. Charlotte Rhead (1885-1947) - Pair of tube lined tiles decorated with "Dutch Child Flower-Sellers", with back stamp of recumbent greyhound under a crown, and "Registered England" and BWS", each 6ins x 3ins, in contemporary oak frames and gilt slips Note : The framer, Pretty & Co, of Newmarket, have written in pencil on the reverse of one tile giving framing instructions and the name "Miss Rhead". A very similar pair was sold by Bearnes, Hampton & Littlewood, Lot 572 (21.1.14). That pair bore the back stamps for T. & R. Boote Ltd.
A late Victorian silver rectangular inkstand / desk tidy with nib pattern inkwell, curled page corner pattern pen rack, cylindrical tapered seal on stand, vesta holder, taper stick and twin compartment stamp box, on plain rectangular base with bun feet, 7.25ins x 4.75ins x 4ins high, possibly by Gibson & Langman or The Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Company (maker's mark rubbed), Birmingham 1896, and impressed registration No. 251020 (weight 16ozs)
An 1899 Pattern Cavalry Trooper's sword to G Troop RHA, 85cm slightly curved fullered blade bearing various dates stamps, 99, 02, 03 and also 97, regulation steel bowl guard stamped G.RHA over 69, traces of brown paint within the bowl at the base of the grip, contained in its steel scabbard. Robson suggests that a number of 1899 Pattern swords were converted from existing stocks of 1890 Pattern Cavalry Trooper's swords explaining the 1897 date stamp. G Troop earned the nickname Mercer's Troop at Waterloo and later saw action in the second Boer War with the 2nd Cavalry Brigade at Magersfontein and Paardeberg.
A scarce mid-18th Century Dragoon's backsword, 81cm double fullered blade with an inspection stamp or rack number 5 at the forte, characteristic basket hilt with triangular form front plate with two side-bars, flattened bun-shaped pommel, wire bound fishskin grip.
