Jane`s Fighting Ships 1936 oblong 4to 568pp. exhaustive annual reference book on the world`s combat and supply vessels, which, in 1936, records the armaments build up just prior to the Second World War, with 25 pages on Germany alone, and 96 pages on the British Navy. Book condition: navy boards are worn at the spine ends, corners bumped and slightly frayed, the f.f.e-p., bearing the stamp of `The Star Reference Library`, and the advertisers` page (verso of aforementioned) with hand-written notes, presumably by The Star`s editor, due to a note in the same hand: `rec. in files 9.1.37` next to the stamp. These notes are then repeated (in typed format) and pasted in at the rear end-paper. Nevis1931 indentures (2) relating to the sale of Low Ground Estate from Countess Cowley to Thomas Deane and Arthur Falconer; the first dated May 1931 bears Leeward Islands revenue stamps for 6d. (3), 1/- and 2/- (3) plus 1½d. and 3/- postage stamps plus St. Christopher and Nevis £1 embossed stamp, the second, dated November 1931, bears Leeward Island embossed stamps of 10/-, 2/- and 6d. plus St. Christopher and Nevis embossed stamps for 5/- and a 1d. stamp; some age faults though interesting documents Note: Lord Le Despencer owned the plantation at least until 1871, when it was known as Lower Ground.
