AN EARLY VICTORIAN GILT CAST IRON FENDER IN ROCOCO REVIVAL STYLE, Cast with lozenge date stamp for 1852, the serpentine toprail above a central cabochon flanked to each side by openwork registers of graduating crescents, to scrolling foliate cast ends, height: 16cm, width: 129cm, depth: 29cm
A SET OF FOUR VICTORIAN MAHOGANY AND UPHOLSTERED DINING CHAIRS IN GEORGE III STYLE by T.Willson, 19th century, the backrests with openwork splats relief carved with foliage, ribboning and scrollwork; the front cabriole legs with acanthus carved knees and ball and claw feet, with splayed back legs; later reupholstered, stamped T.WILLSON, 68 GREAT QUEEN STREET LONDON, height: 94cm, wide: 56cm. Note: Thomas Willson is entered in directories as a furniture broker and appraiser of 68 Great Queen Street between 1821 and 1829. From 1830-37 the Great Queen Street business was continued by his wife Mary Willson & Son. After 1838 it is listed at the same address as 'Matthew Wilson, furniture warehouse, furniture work, upholsterer', until 1854. The stamps to the these chairs are therefore enigmatic, since they are stylistically very much of the George III period, but certainly of later date. Reproductions of George III styles would perhaps have been fairly uncommon during the 1820s, but the presence of the initial 'T' in the stamp suggests that these chairs might indeed be of that time

Hong Kong : (SG 54b) 1898 (1st April) 10c on 30c grey-green, SURCHARGE DOUBLE with equal intensity, from position 17 of the third printing showing broken 'EN', very fine mint, and with 2011 BPA photo certificate signed by Schneider, Granger and Taylor, probably the most knowledgeable experts in the field today. To put the rarity of this stamp into perspective, the 10c on 30c with Chinese characters similarly with double surcharge has been recorded incl. within a complete mint pane, and a handful of singles (currently priced at £12,000 by SG). ONLY one row in a single pane became doubly printed, and the row comprised a setting of six subjects (incl. the above variety showing 'EN' broken); Moving on to the same stamp issue without Chinese characters which this is, ONLY ONE OTHER EXAMPLE IS KNOWN and unpriced by SG, and to find one with this combination of broken letters is almost certainly unique. A Hong Kong and indeed Asian philately rarity of the highest calibre. (image available) [US12]
Ceylon : 1875(Feb) Revenues-Set of four hand painted artist's essays, designs as adopted but with 'silhouette' Queeen's head, for the four new values added to the Stamp Duty series in 1876-7, each stamp sizee on card, comprising 1c brown, 2c violet, 500R lake and 1,000R pale blue, with details in Chinese white. Couple of minor gum marks and discreet pin pricks but a unique and highly attractive series. Ex De La Rue archives, but never previously on the market, having originally been sold privately in the 1970s. As Barefoot 27,28,44,45. Similar but unadopted essays for the 2c and 500R sold for £2,091 at Spink 23 Oct 2013 (image available)
Malaya - Sungei Ujong : (SG 19-21) 1882-4 2c pale rose block of 12(3x4) showing four complete impressions of a 'double' triplet setting, the first column with types 16 + 14, the second with types 17 + 14, the third with types 12 + 18, original gum, three with hinge marks, others unmounted. Typical yellowish gum, with mostly minor gum creasing and slight faults to the lower left corner vertical pair, but overall fine appearance with fresh colour, and showing 'SUNGEI' type 12 clearly doubled on the third stamp in the second row. A rare exhibition piece, ex Yay Kai Wheng. On Stanley Gibbons sales card (image available)
British Post Offices in Siam : (SG 20c) 1882-85 BANGKOK Double overprint 'B' 8c. Orange wmk Crown CA, Perf 14, 1882 Straits ovptd 'B' Type 1, variety overprint double, part Bangkok CDS used example, one of the rarest of the double overprints. An exceptionally difficult stamp to locate in cds condition, due to delicate colour, this being a particularly fine example, described on the BPA colour photo-certificate (2019) as bearing manuscript line at foot, creases (absolutely minimal), soiled (barely) and a little rubbed (hardly), is genuine - most of which, apart from the authenticity, is irrelevant because a better example hardly exists. Crucially, clearly defined double 'B' overprint. Exceptionally rare. Cat £4250 (image available) [US3]
Great Britain - QV (line engraved) : (SG 53) 1870 1½d rose-red (plate 1) ERROR of lettering OP-PC, 100% perfect centring, design clear of perforation upon all four sides, I have never seen this rare stamp with such perfect centring, confirmed by on-line research, not a single example located for sale came even close. Add clear letters all four corners and fine even colour - the OP-PC error is rarely found with all four letters clear confirming authenticity beyond doubt. 125% SG Premium catalogue value example. If you collect the best line engraved I challenge you to find a better used clear corner letters perfectly centred example at any price. Cat £4500 (image available) [US3]
Great Britain - QV (surface printed) : (SG 133) 1882 £5 Orange blued paper high value letters C-J sound average used cancelled by single obliterator, well-centred example, fractional short corner perf SE, otherwise an extremely difficult space to fill at an affordable price for one of QV's rarest stamps catalogued £12,500 (a space which is usually filled by a 'specimen' overprinted unused stamp). We've seen sound average used singles offered for as much as £2,500 to £3,000= - perhaps making the opening price at which this most popular key high value is offered - appear to be something of a 'snip' Cat £12500 (image available) [US3]
Great Britain - KEVII : 1911-13 SH 9d slate-purple and deep ultramarine, ordinary paper, lower right complete pane of 20, with sheet/interpane margins on all 4 sides, natural paper inclusion on one stamp (R3/5), diagonal gum crease at SE corner affects 3 stamps, wonderfully fresh, stamps u.m. SG Spec. M39(3). Stated to be from plates H2H/D2H. Cat. £6000 incl. premiums for blocks of 4. Very scarce. (image available) [US2]
