A 1796 pattern light cavalry sword, with wooden grip, shaped guard and curved blade, bearing traces of a stamp to the blade back, length 82cm. Heavy wear to the grip where is meets the guard and this shows shows signs of a glue residue and repair. Surface knocks and bruises to the metalwork throughout. Lot 957

A cased Gieve Royal Navy bicorn hat with gilt anchor button and bullion work coils, maker's stamp to interior silk lining, in fitted case with gilt label motif stamp for Matthews & Co Outfitters Portsea and central brass cartouche (name rubbed), also with a Gieve bullion work belt with gilt fouled anchor motif buckle and gilt tooled Royal Appointment label to reverse. CONDITION REPORT: There is some wear to outer lining of hat, particularly to lower rim and some further thin/bald small patches to body, bullion work faded, internal lining still remains intact with only minor fraying to lower edge commensurate with age, metal case worn with little remaining of original lacquer finish, brass name plate rubbed as stated. Bullion work has faded in spots, some creasing and areas of distress to leather.

CONDITION REPORT: Outer cloth has become thin particularly to one example, some fraying to stitch work and further deterioration to surface covering of lower rim, example with silk lining generally in better condition with only minor points of surface deterioration.

Two bicorn hats to include an example with internal gilt 'Royal Appointment' stamp for Ede & Ravenscroft, Chancery Lane, London (2). CONDITION REPORT: Earlier bicorn heavily distressed with extensive fraying and deterioration to outer surface as well as interior and underside, Ede & Ravencroft example with only minor fraying to outer edges, internal lining still good.

CONDITION REPORT: Some distress to leather peaks, some fraying to stitch work and some areas of thinning/balding to cloth, khaki example generally clean.

Two stiff bodied cloth and leather peaked caps, one with bullion work to peak outer rim and internal By Royal Appointment stamp 'Dobson & Sons Military Tailors, Outfitters & Army Contractors Lexington Street', the other with gilt Grenadier badge and internal stamp 'Pierre Huard & Cie Paris' (2). CONDITION REPORT: Dobson example heavily worn with split to top and rim to upper front, further fraying and splits throughout, distress to leather work, extensively faded to bullion work, fraying to stitch work, second example cleaner but with distress to leather peak.
