Condition Report: Creases and folds to some of the sheets, and spots of foxing, some tearing to the sheets, particularly towards the edges. In fair condition overall.

Y AN EARLY VICTORIAN MAHOGANY CHEST OF DRAWERSBY GILLOW, CIRCA 1851Stamped 'GILLOW' and inscribed in pencil 'Ths Whiteside 1851'84cm high, 96cm wide, 55cm deep Please note, the handles are solid rosewood and this lot should be marked for CITES regulations. Condition Report: Chest with the marks, knocks, scratches and abrasions commensurate with age an use. Some old minor chips and splits. Some old repairs to the edges of the top at both sides - see images. The Gillows stamp to one drawer may not be correct but there is no doubt that the overall quality of the piece indicates it is made by Gillows. Paper linings to the drawers are possibly original. Lala (Mrs Charlotte Bill) Royal Nannie to the Children of T.M. King George V and Queen Mary, portrait photograph of the famous Nanny holding an infant inscribed in ink 'Lala' and 'Prince Henry', another cabinet photograph of three of the eldest Royal children, an envelope containing a lock of blond hair inscribed 'H.R.H. Prince Edward of Wales' with York Cottage Sandringham stamp to flap, and a charming hand made card inscribed on reverse 'Lalla from Mary R 1914' (4) a fascinating lot. Lala was highly regarded by the Royal Family. After her loyal duty of care to the older children she was tasked with the care of their youngest son Prince John who was an epileptic. When he died in 1919 it was Lala who telephoned Queen Mary to break the news. She lived into her eighties and was fondly remembered by The Duke of Windsor in his book "A Family Album".

Princess Alix of Hesse-Darmstadt (later Tsar Nicholas II and his consort), fine portrait photograph of the recently engaged Imperial couple wearing their yachting attire taken at Osborne on 23rd July 1894 when the heir to the Russian throne came to visit his fiancé with her Grandmother Queen Victoria. The Tsarevitch stayed in England during the summer firstly visiting Walton on the Essex coast, then spending three weeks at Windsor and then five days at Osborne. 15.5 x 10cm. An unusual Anglo-Japanese inlaid mahogany standing corner cabinet, by Holland & Sons, c.1880, of stepped form with open galleried shelves and velvet lined recess over two Japanese cloisonné enamel panel inset doors, flanked by mirrors and a further recess bordered by lacquered panels over a central glazed door flanked by open shelves, raised on turned tapered feet and ormolu mounted throughout, Holland & Sons stamp, width 98cm, height 258cm***CONDITION REPORT***Honest but now slightly neglected condition, rather dirty and dusty, with some oxidisation of the ormolu mounts and a little fading in places, upper recess looks to have the original faded and rubbed velvet lining, central doors have small losses around the edges and probably a loss of an ormolu strip down the centre, they enclose a purple velvet lined interior which again looks original, lock to door is present but no key. Mirrors to either side are oxidised, lacquer panels are a little rubbed and faded, ormolu beading left centre has approximately 2 inches missing and a crack to the wood below, further ormolu beading on the right side has sprung away from the edge, a short section of foliate pattern ormolu missing mid left above the first recess, this has broken away but is still retained with the piece, lower mirrors equally oxidised and lower lacquer panels equally faded and rubbed, main door has original lock and working key, interior has a single fixed shelf and is lined in faded green velvet, Holland & Sons stamp to the top of the main door.PLEASE NOTE:- Prospective buyers are strongly advised to examine personally any goods in which they are interested BEFORE the auction takes place.
