Y Noticia de la Expedicion que despues hizo para poblarle, 1st edition, Madrid: en la Imprenta Real de la Gazeta, 1768, three folding engraved plates at rear (first plate a little marked), erased and washed out ink stamp to verso of title with consequent small hole, occasional light spotting mostly to margins, marbled endpapers with crude cloth hinge repairs, contemporary marbled sheep, cloth reback with remains of spine relaid, area of leather loss to lower board and infilled with marbled paper, 4to Sabin 77094; Borba de Moraes, page II:777; Hill 1526; Palau 302364. The first edition of an important narrative of early naval adventure and exploration, published from a manuscript found at the University of Madrid after almost two centuries. Sarmiento de Gamboa was a Spanish naval commander who set off from Peru in pursuit of Sir Francis Drake in 1579. He never caught Drake, but did undertake an early passage through the Straits of Magellan, then made visits to the Azores and the African coast. Appended is Tom‚ Hernandez's account of Sarmiento's later disastrous Patagonia colony at 'Port Famine' (Puerto Hambre). (1)

Royal Gloucestershire Hussars Imperial Yeomanry Troopers Busby. A rare example of the fur busby. Plain scarlet bag and to the body of the busby triple yellow mohair cord lines. The interior with leather and wax cotton lining. Also with embossed stamp “R.G.H.I.Y.”Retains leather backed brass chin chain. To the crown a gilt metal mount supports a scarlet over white plume. Overall GC with some service and age wear.

21st (Empress of India) Lancers Victorian Officer’s 1897-1899 Lance Cap. A magnificent rare early Regimental example bearing the plate introduced to the Regiment in 1897, without Battle Honour “Khartoum”. The skull of black patent leather with the upper portion of French Grey Melton cloth, with gold gimp cord across the top and down the angles. To the left side is a gold bullion rosette with embroidered regimental device of a VR Cypher onto a velvet ground. This supports a gilt plume cup and white stitched swans feather drooping plume. The gilt lance cap plate is mounted with silvered Victorian Crown Royal Arms and title scroll “21st Lancers”. Patent leather peak with gold bullion lines. Two gilt metal lion head boss’s support chin chain with velvet backing. Leather sweat band and and crimson silk lining retaining embossed stamp for Hawkes & Co. London to the interior. Minor age wear and slight dulling to lace.
