Henry H Parker (1858-1930)A harvesting scenesigned 'H H Parker' l.l., oil on canvas20.5 x 30.5cmCondition report: Oil on canvas which is unlined with an artists’ suppliers stamp for P Shea. The canvas has minor undulations across the surface but the tension is sound. The paint layer is in a good stable condition overall. There is a hair caught in the paint surface at the right hand side. There are small touches of overpaint which appear to be mainly localised in the tree at the left hand side, these have darkened over time. The varnish is glossy ad yellowed with some uneven patches in the sky.

The painting is in a very good condition. The canvas is in plane and the paint layers are stable. There is a thin varnish layer present which is even and semi-glossy. The surface has a light layer of dust present.

An old solder repair to the silver mount at the muzzle end and some beaded moulding losses opposite the lock along the top section before the breech.

A RARE 16TH CENTURY OTTOMAN OR TURKISH BUCKLER OR SHIELD FROM THE ST IRENE ARSENAL, the 38cm convex spiralling wicker body with reddish brown leather facing, the large central metal boss with fluted decoration bearing the Arsenal stamp of St Irene, the whole secured with a border of geometric stitches, the brown leather backing with leather grip. The St Irene Arsenal, formally the Haiga Eirene Church is located in Istanbul (Constantinople). The central boss is reflective of the central panel of the traditional Krug armour. Some splitting to leather backing otherwise very good.

China, a large silver round charm, early 20th century inscribed 'zhuang yuan ji di' [Graduate First and Attain the Grade] and 'zhang ming fu gui' [Long Life, wealth, Honour], stamp to edge, 50mm, VF or betterCONDITION: Provenance - Alfred Theodore Arber-Cooke (c.1905-1993); thence by family descent. Arber-Cooke was an antiquarian and avid collector of Asian works of art, coins and antiquities principally collecting from the 1930s to the 1970s. He amassed a good reference library on Chinese & Asian coins and wrote on several occasions (1969-70) to to the academic F.A. Turk regarding the study of coin amulets and other non-currency coinages of China. A number of the Asian numismatic reference books will be offered in our 29th March sale.Arber-Cooke initially lived in Wimbledon, Greater London and was involved with the Surrey Archaeological Society. He wrote the book 'Old Wimbledon', with a foreword the MP Sir Arthur Fell, published in 1927. He later moved to Llandovery in Carmarthenshire, Wales, again involved with local archaeology and wrote the History of Llandovery, published in 1975.

A Jaques & Son Staunton 3 1/2" boxwood and weighted chess set in original golden oak box, c.1910, 8 x 5.75 x 3.5in.CONDITION: Box measures 8 x 5.75 x 3.5in., looks to have been repolished at some point, one short split in the lid on the left, faded green baize lining and pale green paper label inside the lid.Black - king named JAQUES LONDON, tiny chips to the Queen's coronet and the ring below it, one bishop with chips to the rings around the neck and a scuff to the base, one knight with red crown stamp to the top, one castle with one castellated section broken away but the piece is still present, scuffed at the top near the red crown stamp, one pawn with tiny nick out of base ring, another with minor scuffing around the base.Boxwood - king with JACQUES stamp, one knight with an ear missing, the other faded red stamp to the top, one castle with red crown stamp, two pawns with dark stained flaws possibly infilled cracks to the base.Baize to bases probably later.

A Jaques London red and white ivory 3 1/2" Staunton chess set, c.1850, with Carton Pierre casket, kite marks for 1st March 1849 8.25 x 6 x 4in.CONDITION: Casket looks to be in good order, with red velvet showing through the lid, green velvet to the interior with tooled gilt leather around the edge of the interior of the lid, later support straps have been fixed in place, no label to the casket, lid with very slight upward bulge at the front.Red - tiny areas of flaking to the cross finial of the king, tiny chips to the tips of the Queen's crown, both bishops a little faded and dirt speckled, one has the green kite mark sticker, minute chipping around the horses ears, black crown stamp to one of them which also has the green kite sticker, one castle with black crown stamp to the top which also has a green kite sticker, pawns all look good, two have green kite labels.White - King with JAQUES LONDON stamp to base, Queen with several crown points broken away, both bishops with green kite label, one knight with black crown stamp to head the other with green label, one castle with crown stamp to top, both with green labels, one pawn with tiny chip to ring collar, also has a green label.

A Jaques London red and white ivory 2¾" Staunton chess set, c.1850, with original Carton Pierre casket, 8.25 x 6 x 4in.CONDITION: Casket a little worn, lid is almost completely detached, chipped and broken away at the front right corner, castellations around the top are broken away at the corners, what looks to be the original red fabric showing through is now very faded and split, green baize to the underside is later, interior with purple velvet looks original with original tooled gilt black leather banding around the inside of the lid.Red - overall a little faded in places with one or two tiny spots where the white of the ivory is showing through, one knight with crown stamp to head, one castle with crown stamp to top, one pawn with tiny chip to collar, another pawn looks to have had its finial reattached and another pawn has a replacement composition finial.White - one bishop with chip to foot rim, one knight with black crown stamp to head, one castle with black crown stamp to top, one pawn with tiny chip to foot ring, all white pieces with a rather grubby appearance.Comes with an old card and leather folding chess board, 15.75 x 8in. when closed.

An Edwardian Edwards & Roberts marquetry inlaid satinwood kneehole desk, with tooled green skiver and seven drawers, on squared tapered legs, fitted brass castors, W.4ft D.2ft H.2ft 6in.CONDITION: Overall in good honest original condition, skiver looks old possibly original with extensive scuffing and wear including some holes, central drawer has the Edwards & Roberts stamp, all of the locks look to be original but there is no key present, minor scuffing around the legs and kneehole, back and sides of the desk are veneered to match by not marquetry inlaid, several short length of beading are missing around the sides and back.

An early 20th century Tiffany style bronze table lamp, by Handel, with opaque leaded glass domed shade and chinoiserie style pierced base with ring handles, diameter 20.1in. height 25in.CONDITION: Overall rather dirty with a number of the panels coming loose from their leaded surrounds, in fact some may be later replacements as a number of them have more of a white tone than the others, the base dirty and oxidised, has screw in receivers for three light bulbs, all activated by beaded chain pulls, the main body of the base oxidised and dirty, no sign of any makers stamp.

A pair of Art Nouveau bronze candlesticks, modelled as nude children holding aloft amphora on fluted circular bases, signed with Copyright stamp, height 16.75in.CONDITION: Both with good rich chocolate brown patination, quality of the casting is a little more poor most notably around the wax pans, boy figure is perhaps slightly bent out of shape where it joins the base or possibly just slightly mis-cast.
