Early 20th century A.D. A Burk's Fabrikat Amerikaner circular drum-shaped timepiece with the paper recording disc present internally, with stamp inset with key post, spring fingers and detector spring; without keys. 855 grams total, 11.5 cm wide (4 1/2 in.). Acquired Stacey's Auctions, Rayleigh, Essex, UK. Property of a Essex gentleman. Each waypoint of the night watchman's round had a key hung there with a different number; as the watchman reached that location on the ship he would insert the key and turn it and that would make a time and location stamp on the paper disk showing exactly what time he had checked that site. The clock cases were locked so the instrument could not be tampered with while in use. [No Reserve]

Comprising: a blue-glazed eye of Horus amulet with bifacial detailing, pierced for suspension; a glazed Shu amulet, suspended on a slender gold bar and pendant hoop; offered with a black stone stamp seal engraved with a bird standing left, pierced for suspension. 5.06 grams total, 13-26 mm (1/2 - 1 in.). 6th-10th century A.D. Rectangular with pierced lug to the reverse; rectangular design with text 'XAPO / ETA'. Cf. similar in the collection of the British Museum under accession no.1875,1012.1, with text also executed dextrograde (not reversed). 80 grams, 66 mm (2 5/8 in.). From the private collection of the late Mr S.M., London, UK, 1969-1999; thence by descent. The legend should have been written in reverse for a stamp; it may have been a blundered legend by the workman.

Comprising: a pillow-shaped carnelian amulet pierced through the notched upper edge, hatched panels to both faces; a triangular-section stamp seal displaying ring-and-dot motifs and a possible animal figure; a plano-convex stamp seal bearing a geometric motif; a square-shaped lapis lazuli amulet engraved with a horned quadruped standing right. 19.4 grams total, 12-24 mm (1/2 - 1 in.). A LARGE 'ARTIFICIAL STONE' VOLUTE KRATER VASE AFTER THE ANTIQUE ATTRIBUTED TO COADE LAMBETH, CIRCA 1830-1860 Of conventional Greek form with relief band of centaurs fighting Lapiths, no visible stamp 82cm high, 48cm wide across the body The vase is closely related to the form of the Townley Vase, excavated from the Villa of Antoninus Pius by Gavin Hamilton in 1773, and held in the British Museum since 1805 (accession number 1805,0703.218). Condition Report: Some surface wear, marks, knocks and scratches as per age, handling, use, and cleaning. Dirty surface with some residual plaster (?) traces around relief decoration- which has some suffered some wear and loss Both handles and foot restored. The foot with evident cracks and with stabilisation through plaster moulded into underside of foot. Heavy and will require careful handling. A MAHOGANY AND UPHOLSTERED ARMCHAIR BY HOWARD CHAIRS LIMITED, 20TH CENTURY One back leg stamped 'HOWARD & SONS LTD, LONDON WA 695' and upholstered with ticking in the original Howard & Sons style 87cm high, 77cm wide, 95cm deep Condition Report: There are scratches, marks, knocks, cracks and abrasions consistent with age and use.Observations include: the upholstery is a printed cotton fabric; there are various marks to the upholstery fabric including to the side and one large side of the the seat cushion, each side of the chair has a shadow of a stain from the underlying chair frame and similarly there is another line of stain across the lower back of the chair; there are dimples through the fabric on the back of the chair from springs within the chair back; the chair is supremely comfortable; correction to the stamp on the leg it is '... LONDON W.1. ...'. The blue cover for this lot is included - it has the expected minor marks and wear.Please see the additional photographs as a visual reference of condition.
