World Cup 1966 Matchball England v Argentina - This is the one true ball which was used during the quater final match England versus Argentinia 1-0 at Wembley Stadium on 23rd July 1966. It comes from the inheritance of German referee Rudolf Kreitlein (1919-2012) who called the match. Geoff Hurst scored the goal with the ball and thus cleared the way for England to become World Champion. It was during the World Cup in 1966 the notorious match between England and Argentina took place. The two teams met in the quarter final which England won due to the goal scored by Geoff Hurst in the 78th minute. Yet the match was particularly noted for German referee Kreitlein dismissing Argentinian captain Antonio Rattin in the 37th minute. By then, Rattin had already received his second booking. The Argentinians and especially Rattin of course considered the second booking unfair. Rattin refused to leave the pitch and had to be escorted from it by the police. After the match it was referee Kreitlein who needed the police escort. The Argentinians were suspecting the English team and German referee Kreitlein of collaborating against them in order to get the South American teams out of the tournament. When Kreitlein left the pitch, he took the ball with him which he afterwards had signed by all the English players. Kreitlein had made it a habit to collect the balls that were used in his most importat matches and had them signed afterwards by both teams. However, he decided he would do without the Argentinian autographs. Kreitlein ""improved"" the ball with the inscription ""World Cup 1966 England. England 1 Argentinien 0. Viertelfinale 23.7.1966 Wembley. Rudolf Kreitlein Referee. LR. Zsolt Ungarn, Dienst Schweiz"" and a World Cup 1966 sticker. After having had a special place in Kreitlein`s living room for nearly half a century, the signatures have faded as they naturally would have. The ball was stamped twice. One stamp reads Made in England"" the other ""Guaranteed Hand Sewn Throughout"". The rubber balloon inside has faded, the ball looks its age. The ball comes with a certificate of authenticity written by Rudolf Kreitlein himself in 2010. There are seceral other items which will be auctioned in combination with the ball. 1) The original whistle called ""Balilla"" Kreitlein used at the match. It was made by A.G. Baldi, Florence. Comes with the original chain and leather attachment. 2) Rudolf Kreitlein`s note card with his handwritten notes of the match plus the original pencil on a ribbon. 3) A medal of honour that was given to Rudolf Kreitlein by the DFB (German FA). It is engraved ""Zur Erinnerung an die Fussball-Weltmeisterschaft 1966 England - Argentinien am 23.VIII.1966 in London"" ""Rudolf Kreitlein SV Gablenberg"". The medal consists of bronze. It is silver plated. It measures 4.6x4.6 cm and comes with ist original case. 4) There are two original press photos of the match England - Argentina: A)37th minute: Rattin is being send off. B) After the match Kreitlein is being escorted by the police when he leaves Wembley Stadium. You can see the ball and his whistle in his hands, Each photo measures 20 x 14 cm. 5) There also is the FIFA envelope for the referee of the match England versus Argentina, Rudolf Kreitlein. Other original pieces of the Football World Cup 1966 that belonged to Rudolf Kreitlein and come with this lot are: 1) Kreitlein`s original World Cup ID ""REFEREE"", numbered ""13"" in ist original plastic case.
