Printed by Catherine Mosley in the artist's studio, Greenwich, with the blind stamp lower right. Published by Brooke Alexander, Inc., New York. A superb, richly-inked impression. Pencil signed and numbered 21/56 along the lower left.Literature: Belknap 207.Provenance: Distinguished Corporate Collection, Minnesota.Sight; height: 18 1/4 in x width: 35 1/2 in. Framed; height: 27 1/4 in x width: 44 in.Condition: The colors are bold and bright. There are no visible rips, tears, major creases, or restorations when inspected under UV light. Some unevenness to the deckled edges, original to the artist production; there is one minute tear along the lower right edge which may be inherent to the deckled edges, though it is difficult to determine. This spot measures 1/4 inch in length. There is undulation to the sheet throughout. The artwork is floated in the frame; not inspected out of frame. Light wear to the frame throughout; framed under plexiglass.

CHARLES V: (1500-1558) Holy Roman Emperor and Archduke of Austria 1519-56, King of Spain (Castile and Aragon) 1516-56, and Lord of the Netherlands as titular Duke of Burgundy 1506-55. A fine L.S., `Yo El Rey´, one page, 4to, Genoa, 20th August 1529, to the Duke of Barcelona, in old Spanish. The attractively penned manuscript document states in part `Duque primo de Barcelona, os hice saber el día que me embarqué. Después, con ayuda de nuestro señor seguí mi viaje, y… a su divina majestad que llegué en salvamento a esta ciudad de Génova, a doce del presente mes de agosto´, )Translation: “Duke of Barcelona, my cousin, I informed you about the date I embarked. Later, with the help of our Lord I continued my travel, and… to Your Divine Majesty that I arrived to save this city of Genoa, on the 12th of the present month of August”) Charles V further refers to the situation in Genoa and expects that all will work in the way he expects. Boldly countersigned beneath the King´s signature by the Major Court clerk, `Por mandado de su Majestad, Covos… mayor´ (Translation: “By order of His Majesty…”) Addressed to the verso. Bearing to the verso right bottom corner a Putnam collection stamp. Very small overall age wear with few small binding holes to the left border and tear to the fold, none affecting the text or signatures. G On 12th of August 1529, Charles V was welcomed and honoured as the protector of the Republic by Andrea Doria, who had entered the service of the Emperor in June 1528, and by the citizens of Genoa. Andrea Doria (1466-1560) Genoese statesman, Condottiero and Admiral who played a key role as the ruler in the Republic of Genoa during his lifetime. Doria reformed the Republic's constitutionOnly a day after the present letter was written, took place the Battle of Landriano, on 21st June 1529, between the French army under Francis de Bourbon and the Imperial-Spanish army commanded by Don Antonio de Leyva. The French army was destroyed and the battle's strategic result was that the struggle between Francis I of France and Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor for the control of northern Italy was temporarily at an end.

TIBBETS PAUL: (1915-2007) American Brigadier General in the United States Air Force, pilot of the Enola Gay, the first aircraft to drop an atomic bomb, Hiroshima, 6th August 1945. A colour printed 4to reproduction of Arthur Szyk's artwork entitled There Shall Be Wings, featuring Leonardo da Vinci and with images of various air balloons, airships and other aircraft to the borders, originally intended as the title page for a never-published stamp album series, signed by Tibbets in bold black ink with his name alone to the lower white border. With a rubber stamped caption beneath the signature, incorporating the date of the bombing of Hiroshima (slightly smudged), and a postage stamp commemorating the 50th anniversary of solo Transatlantic flight also neatly affixed to the lower border. A couple of light, minor corner creases, otherwise VG

T.L.S., `Peron´, in his capacity as Minister of war, one page, folio, Buenos Aires, 19th August 1944, to Vicente Fernandez, in Spanish. The typed document bears to the upper left corner the printed heading "Republic of Argentina - Ministry of war" beneath the blind embossed seal of the Argentinean emblem. The document reports on the return to service of soldier Fernandez after an accident and recovery. With ink stamp of the Argentinean army, and countersigned to the verso by Guillermo Beghe. Two binder holes to the left border not affecting text or signature. Small age wear with edges very slightly trimmed. G

‘Please understand that this is a very valuable letter that I am sending you’   JOACHIM JOSEPH: (1831-1907) Hungarian violinist, conductor and composer. A.L.S., J. J. (Joseph Joachim), four pages, 8vo, Bendlerstrasse (Berlin), 21st July 1892, to George Grove ('My dear G. G!'). Joachim commences his letter asking 'What will you think of this most untowardly late answer to a most welcome kind note of yours? I hope no severe sentence!' and continues to ask Grove to convey to Julian Marshall 'that I was indeed and am still most grateful for his kind offer to show me Tarsini's interesting autographs in his possession. It will be of the greatest interest for me to see them, and I hope he will be good enough to allow me to call on him when I come to London next', further writing 'I send you two programmes (no longer present) to show you, Mr. Director, that we are not idling here neither. What a pity you could not have the Bach performance, with the original trumpet parts….', adding that he is longing for his holidays to begin in August when he shall be in Switzerland, explaining 'Later on I may perhaps pay Piatti a visit, and return via Gmunden and Salzburg (of course looking up Brahms…..)' and concluding 'Let me hear of your doings, dear G. G. and don't be too hard on your affectionate, lazy letter writer'. With a light College of Music date received stamp to the lower right corner of the final page. Together with an A.L.S., G. Grove, by George Grove, two pages, 8vo, Lower Sydenham (London), 21st March 1899, to Miss. Blomfield, sending his autograph with pleasure and informing her 'I will look over my letters and see if I can find you one of Joachim's or any other of my friends but they are mostly of a very private kind and I may not like to give them away'. With blank integral leaf. Also including a L.S., G. Grove, by Grove, one page, 8vo, Lower Sydenham (London), 22nd March 1899, also to Miss. Bloomfield, sending her a letter of Joachim and remarking 'I have plenty of others, but they are signed mostly with his initials. I hope this will please you. Please understand that this is a very valuable letter that I am sending you'. With blank integral leaf. Further including another A.L.S., G Grove, by Grove, two pages, 8vo, Lower Sydenham (London), n.d. ('Sunday'), to Miss. Flora (?), on the printed stationery of MacMillan's Magazine, sending her various autograph letters (none of which are still present) which he lists and which include examples signed by Hans von Bulow, Therese Tietjens, Charles Gounod, Arthur Sullivan, Clara Schumann, Julius Benedict, Joseph Joachim, Jenny Lind Goldschmidt, Carlo Alfredo Piatti etc., as well as envelopes in the hands of Johannes Brahms, Clara Schumann and Charles Gounod, and concluding by remarking that he could supply more letters but they 'are so very private that I can't bear to part with them'. Some very minor, light age wear, VG, 4 George Grove (1820-1900) English music writer, the founding editor of Grove's Dictionary of Music and Musicians and the first director of the Royal College of Music.

RAINER LUISE: (1910-2014) Austrian actress, Academy Award winner for Best Actress in 1936 for her role as Anna Held in The Great Ziegfeld. A fine vintage signed 8 x 11 photograph by Rainer, the original Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer publicity portrait by Ed Cronenweth, bearing his credit stamp to the verso along with the original typed caption, depicting Rainer in a head and shoulders pose in costume from her Oscar winning performance as the stage performer Anna Held from the musical drama film The Great Ziegfeld. Signed by Rainer in dark fountain pen ink with her name alone to a light area at the head of the image. Rare in this form. Together with two signed 8 x 10 photographs of Rainer in different head and shoulders poses, in one gently holding some flowers in her hands. WALLENBERG RAOUL: (1912-1945) Swedish architect, diplomat and humanitarian who served as Sweden's special envoy in Budapest from July - December 1944 during which time he was responsible for saving thousands of Jews in German-occupied Hungary during the Holocaust in the latter stages of World War II. A rare D.S., R Wallenberg, one page, oblong 8vo, Budapest, 22nd September 1944, on the printed stationery of the Royal Swedish Legation, in Hungarian. The partially printed document, completed in typescript, is a Schutz-Pass (protective passport) issued to Miss. Zsuzsanna Steiner and is addressed to the National Central Authority Supervising Foreigners, stating 'We are pleased to inform you that the Royal Swedish Legation in Budapest has issued a protective passport to Steiner Zsuzsanna urno [i.e. Miss] according to which the above-named person must be considered a Swedish citizen. The Legation kindly requests that the above-named individual be exempt from wearing the distinguishing symbol. The Legation certifies that the reciprocity mentioned in the relevant regulation exists with Sweden'. Signed by Wallenberg at the conclusion with a more complete signature than is usually encountered, and alongside the official oval ink stamp of the Royal Swedish Legation in Budapest. Some light overall age wear, two minor paperclip rust stains to the upper edge and a couple of neat splits to the folds, professionally repaired to a high standard to the verso. G

BUSH GEORGE H. W.: (1924-2018) American President 1989-93. A good signed and inscribed colour 10 x 8 photograph, the official White House image depicting Bush seated in a full-length pose opposite the General Secretary of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union, and future President of the Soviet Union, Mikhail Gorbachev, as they engage in light-hearted conversation on board the Soviet cruise ship Maksim Gorky during the Malta Summit of December 1989. Photograph by David Valdez for the White House and bearing his credit stamp, as well as the date 2nd December 1989, and a typed caption label, to the verso. Signed by Bush in bold black ink to the upper white border, 'To: Ron Wade - with pleasant memories of this historic 1989 meeting at Malta, George Bush'. EXRon Wade (1950-     ) American author who was appointed by George H. W. Bush to his Presidential Inaugural Committee, and was also a friend to other American Presidents including Lyndon B. Johnson, Jimmy Carter, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.The Malta Summit between Bush and Gorbachev took place on 2nd and 3rd December 1989, just a few weeks after the fall of the Berlin Wall. During the summit the two leaders declared an end to the Cold War and news reports of the time referred to the Malta Summit as one of the most important since World War II.

The partially printed document is a receipt issued by the French publication Revue d´Aujourd´hui, Mallarmé signing and acknowledging receipt of the sum of 150 francs corresponding to the amount due till that date. Bearing a tax stamp to the front. Small repair to the verso to the upper edge, otherwise G to VG

HUMPERDINCK ENGELBERT: (1854 - 1921) German Composer. An excellent, vintage colour picture postcard, depicting Hansel and Gretel at the confectionary house, the witch at the door. Signed ('EH') in black fountain pen ink to a clear area at the foot of the picture. To the left his signature, Humperdinck has added an autograph musical quotation of two bars from his composition 'Hansel and Gretel', together with a short inscription. An annotation in French is written to clear area that borders the image, in the hand of another. To the verso, the same hand has addressed the card to 'Mademoiselle L. Breval'. With an unfranked postage stamp. VG Lucienne Breval (1869-1935) Swiss Opera Singer. Breval spent most of her career performing with the Opéra National de Paris where she became a greatly admired interpreter of French grand opera roles and Wagner heroines.

Signed by Paxinou in fountain pen ink to a light area of the background with an inscription to Leo Genn, 'To Leo, with my affection, Katina', and dated 1947 in her hand. Some heavy overall surface creasing and a few small tears to the lower half of the right edge, about G Leo Genn (1905-1978) English actor, an Academy Award nominee, who starred alongside Paxinou in the drama film Mourning Becomes Electra (1947).

Balbo served as Minister of the Air Force 1929-33 and did towards popularising aviation in Italy and promoting Italian aviation to the world. Signed commemorative cover issued by the Lakewood Stamp Society of New Jersey and featuring an affixed original sepia photograph of the U.S.S. Macon airship leaving Lakehurst to greet Balbo's air armada over New York City. Postmarked at Lakehurst, New Jersey, 18th July 1933. GUICCIOLI TERESA: (1800-1873) Also known as Contessa Guiccioli. Best known as the married lover of Lord Byron. She inspired him while living in Italy and writing his Don Juan. Byron wrote `You sometimes tell me I have been your first real love, and I assure that you shall be my last Passion.´ It was not until 2005 that was published one of the books Teresa Guiccioli wrote about her relationship with Byron. A.L.S., `La C[ontes]se Guicioli´, two pages, n.p., n.d., to Jullien, in French. The Countess states `Monsieur the Vicount would wish a pass for the Athénée tomorrow Monday and he is asking me to request this from you. I know you well enough to be sure that you will grant such favour..´ The letter bears to the upper left corner the blind embossed crowned monogram with the initials "T.G" of the Countess. With blank integral leaf. Bearing a small Debauve collection stamp to the verso. VG   Teresa Guiccioli married at the early age of 17 a powerful ruthless and unpleasant nobleman in Italy, Count Guiccioli, who was fifty years older than her. Only three days later she met Lord Byron. A very dangerous relationship started as Count Guiccioli was widely believed to have ordered the murder of another nobleman. For plotting against the Austrian Empire, Teresa´s father Count Gamba was exiled. In 1823, the Austrian authorities allowed Count Gamba to leave his exile with the condition that the Countess Guiccioli had to end her relationship with Byron and return to her husband.Alexandre Dumas pere included Countess Guiccioli as a minor character in his novel The Count of Monte Cristo using the disguised name "Countess G".

DANTON GEORGES: (1759-1794) Leading figure of the French Revolution and first President of the Committee of Public Safety. Danton voted for the death of Louis XVI in 1793 and was later guillotined by the advocates of revolutionary terror. An exceptional and rare D.S., Danton, two pages, large 10 x 12.5 folio, 25 x 32 cm, Paris, 20th August 1792, in French. The printed text is entitled `LOI´ (`LAW´), and states to the heading that the National Assembly decrees that `Le jour fixé pour honorer les mânes des victimes du despotisme dans la journée du 10, le drapeau pris sur les Suisses sera confié aux fédérés…´ (Translation : `On the day fixed to honour the souls of the victims of despotism on the day of the 10th, the flag taken from the Swiss will be entrusted to the federated…´) To a second paragraph, the Law text states `Au Nom de la Nation - Le Conseil Exécutif Provisoire mande & ordonne a tous les Corps administratifs & Tribunaux… lire, publier & afficher dans leurs départements… & exécuter comme loi…´ (Translation : `In the name of the Nation - the Provisional Executive Committee orders all Administrative Corps & Courts… to read, publish & display in their departments… & execute it as law…´) Signed by Danton in his capacity as Minister of Justice. Bearing to the second page and alongside Danton´s signature, a circular red ink stamp, showing a republican vignette with the text `Au Nom de la Republique Française´. Bearing also the signature `Roland´, by Jean Marie Roland de la Platiere (1734-1793), in his capacity as Minister of the Interior. Roland de la Platiere was a French inspector of manufactures in Lyon who became a leader of the Girondist faction during the French Revolution. Small overall age wear and creasing, mostly to edges, otherwise G Ten days before the present document was signed by Danton, he was appointed Minister of Justice, the day after the Storming of the Tuileries. Jean Marie Roland de la Platiere (1734-1793) Leader of the Girondist acts in the present document as Minister of the Interior. He was strongly influenced by his wife, Marie-Jeanne "Manon" Roland de la Platiere. When the Girondins assumed power, Roland found himself appointed Minister of the Interior on 23 March 1792, serving as Minister in King Louis XVI´s government. Although he dismissed shortly after, Roland de la Platiere was for a second time appointed Minister of Interior, the day after the Storming of the Tuileries, ten days before the present document was signed.

PIERREPOINT ALBERT: (1905-1992) English hangman, responsible for the execution of 200 people who had been convicted of war crimes in Germany and Austria, as well as high treason, including William Joyce (Lord Haw-Haw). Pierrepoint also executed a number of high-profile murderers including John Haigh, John Christie and Ruth Ellis. Signed and inscribed 10 x 8 photograph, the image depicting Pierrepoint standing outdoors in a head and shoulders pose alongside his wife. Signed to the verso in blue ink, 'To Fred, Albert & Anne Pierrepoint', adding the name of his wife on her behalf, and dated 1978 in his hand. BOUDIN EUGENE: (1824-1898) French marine and landscape painter, one of the first French artists to paint outdoors. Manuscript D.S., E. Boudin, one page, 8vo, n.p., June 1884, in French. Boudin lists ten of his canvasses and their individual prices, the titles including Jeters de Trouville, Trouville le port, La peche, Le Bac de Deauville, Le Bassin, Le Bordeaux, Bordeaux la rade etc., all of which total the sum of 2625 francs. Signed by Boudin at the foot and also signed a second time, a little indistinctly, to a revenue stamp neatly affixed to the lower left corner. Some age wear and overall staining, only very slightly affecting the text and signature, G

TALLEYRAND-PÉRIGORD CHARLES MAURICE DE: (1754-1838) French Diplomat and Statesman. Prime Minister of France July-September 1815. A very interesting N.S., Ch Mau Talleyrand, at the base of a L.S., Whitworth, one page, large folio, Paris, 12th May 1803, on a partially printed document issued by the British Embassy in Paris, to J. Charles Clermont, in French. The attractive document, bearing two large printed coats of arms, is a passport authorizing Charles Clermont to return to England together with his servant, and states `Charles Lord Whitworth, Counselor of Her British Majesty and British Ambassador to France, asks and requests in the name of Her Majesty to all Officers and authorities, civil and military ones, Princes and friend States and allies of Her Majesty, not only to let Charles Clermont cross any territory, with his servant and luggage, but also to give him any help he may require on his way back to England. We promise reciprocity on similar situations…´ Beneath the British Ambassador´s signature, and annotated in another hand `The Foreign Affairs Minister certify that the above signature of H.E. Lord Whitworth is authentic, Paris, 16th May 1803´, signed by Talleyrand in his capacity as Foreign Affairs Minister. Also signed by a Diplomatic service officer, and bearing a contemporary ink stamp of the French Foreign Affairs Ministry. Small overall, minor age wear, foxing stains, edges very slightly damaged with a pin hole and a tear to the right edge, to the fold, not affecting the text or signature. G   Charles Whitworth (1752-1825) British Ambassador to France. Whitworth demanded his passports on 12th May 1803, the same day the present passport was issued, and left Paris. Whitworth reached London on 20th May. Two days after Talleyrand signed the present document, on 18th May 1803, Britain declared war against France. On 22nd May Napoleon ordered the arrest of all British residents in France.   On 13th March 1803 took place the famous scene between Napoleon I and the British Ambassador at the Tuileries. Before a full court Napoleon exclaimed loudly to Whitworth "Misfortune to those who do not respect treaties. They will be accountable to the whole of Europe".Whitworth will later state "He was too agitated to prolong the conversation; I therefore made no answer, and he retired to his apartment repeating the last phrase. Two hundred people heard this conversation, and I am persuaded that there was not a single person who did not feel the extreme impropriety of his conduct and the total want of dignity as well as of decency on the occasion´.

[FARSISTAN - ISFAHAN]: Unusual original autograph document, one page, 4to, Yazd, dated 28th July 1298 according to Arabic calendar, [1881], in Arabic. The document, being a telegram and bearing an attractive lion with saber to the heading, is a medical report sent by the doctor of the town of Yazd, stating in part `Typhus increases or diminishes according to increases or decreases of temperature…Children´s diarrheas and conjunctivitis have reached the status of epidemic…´ further saying `Before yesterday, four children of four, five and six years old, who ate raisins which were since long stored at home and mixed with roots of a narcotic and poison plant, became mad, not keeping any kind of trace of their reason..´ Also bearing an ink stamp at the base of the text. [JOYCE JAMES]: (1882-1941) Irish novelist and poet. A good unsigned 12 x 15 photograph of Joyce by Gisele Freund, the image depicting Joyce standing outdoors in a full-length pose on a Paris street, with a motor car at his side in 1938 (printed later). Signed ('Gisele Freund') in black ink by the photographer to the verso beneath her copyright stamp and further annotated by her in pencil, '1938 Joyce rend visite a son fils et sa famille' (Translation: '1938 Joyce visits his son and his family'). A couple of minor, light corner creases to the white borders and a small, insignificant scuff to the lower right corner of the white border, otherwise VG Gisele Freund (1908-2000) German-born French photographer, famous for her portraits of writers and artists.  In 1938 Joyce, who famously disliked being photographed, allowed Freund to take his portrait and over a period of three days she was able to capture some of the most intimate portraits of the writer during his time in Paris. The photographs were later published in James Joyce in Paris: His Final Years (1965).

PEARL HARBOR: Kermit Tyler (1913-2010) American Air Force officer of World War II, assigned as a pilot in the 78th Pursuit Squadron at Pearl Harbor on 7th December 1941, the day of the Japanese attack. The inexperienced and untrained Tyler, when warned of the formation of planes caught on radar and a potential Japanese attack, infamously downplayed the report by replying 'Well, don't worry about it'. A.Q.S., Kermit Tyler, to an oblong 12mo white card, n.p., n.d. Tyler has penned his infamous remark 'Well - don't worry about it', adding his signature and rank beneath as well as the place and date of the original event, Pearl Harbor, 7th December 1941. With a colour United States postage stamp depicting the Japanese bombing of Pearl Harbor neatly affixed to the upper right corner; Joseph Lockard (1922-2012) American Private with the United States Army who was stationed on Hawaii as a radar operator and reported the initial readings which proved to the Japanese attack force heading for Pearl Harbor on 7th December 1941. Signed commemorative cover issued in order to Remember Pearl Harbor, featuring a printed image and with the slogan Let's Go! U.S.A. above. Postmarked at Pittsburgh, 12th November 1945 (?). Signed later by Lockwood in blue ink with his name alone to a clear area. Some light age wear to the cover, otherwise VG, 2

MANDELA NELSON: (1918-2013) South African anti-apartheid activist, the first President of South Africa 1994-99. Nobel Peace Prize winner, 1993. A commemorative 6.5 x 4 postcard issued in honour of Cecilia Makiwane, featuring a postage stamp with her image and post marked at Alice, 30th April 1982. Limited edition number 1211 of 2500. Signed by Mandela in black ink to a clear area of the card and dated 2nd August 1996 in his hand. A couple of very small, light stains to the upper edge, otherwise VG Cecilia Makiwane (1880-1919) South African nurse, the first African registered professional nurse in her country and an early activist in the struggle for women's rights.

SMITH WILLIAM SIDNEY: (1764-1840) British Admiral and intelligence officer who served in the American and French revolutionary wars and the Napoleonic Wars. Napoleon Bonaparte, reminiscing later in his life, said of Smith: 'That man made me miss my destiny'. A.L.S., W. Sidney Smith, one page, 8vo, Rue d'Anjou Saint Honore (Paris), n.d. ('Dimanche'), to 'Mon cher Chevalier', in French. Smith states that when he and his correspondent had planned the excursion to the experimental farm at Versailles Smith had not remembered that tomorrow, Monday, was the day of the Review on the plain at Grenoble, which he must attend, and therefore asks to be excused from accompanying his correspondent. With a collector's heraldic stamp to the upper left corner and a blind embossed seal to the centre of the upper half of the page. Lightly mounted at the left edge to a folio page removed from an album and with a collector's neat calligraphic annotations. About VG

RYBINSKI MACIEJ: : (1784-1874) Polish General who briefly served as Commander-in-Chief of the Polish Army during the insurrection of 1830-31. A.L.S., Rybinski, one page, 4to, Rue St. Leger, Paris, 22nd March 1849, to His Excellency, in French. Rybinski states that he has learned that His Majesty the Emperor of Turkey wishes to entrust the command of his armies to the Polish generals and continues 'j'ai l'honneur de vous demander l'audience pour vous exposer mes vues. Les interets de la Turquie et de la Pologne se lieut d'une maniere si etroite que se serait pour moi l'honneur et le devoir a accepter le commandement si seulement Sa Majeste daigne m'accorder sa confiance et aux officiers de l'ancienne armee polonaise, qui suivront volontier mon exemple' (Translation: 'I have the honour to ask you for an audience to explain my views to you. The interests of Turkey and Poland are so closely linked that it would be my honour and duty to accept the command if only His Majesty deigns to place his trust in me and in the officers of the old Polish army, who will willingly follow my example'). With a collector's heraldic stamp to the upper left corner and a blind embossed seal to the centre of the upper half of the page. Lightly mounted at the left edge to a folio page removed from an album. About VG Abdulmejid I (1823-1861) Sultan of the Ottoman Empire 1839-61 who reorganised the army during his reign, including the introduction of conscription.

WHALE JAMES: (1889-1957) English film director of several classic horror films including Frankenstein (1931), The Invisible Man (1933) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935). An exceptional vintage signed and inscribed 8 x 10 photograph of Whale in a head and shoulders pose. Photograph by Roman Freulich and bearing his Universal Pictures credit stamp to the verso. Signed by Whale in bold, dark fountain pen ink across a light area at the base of the image, 'To Donald Weeks, with best wishes & here's hoping he likes “The Bride of Frankenstein”, James Whale', and dated 1935 in his hand. Autographs of Whale are extremely rare in any form, and signed photographs of this quality (and enhanced by the inscription) are of the utmost desirability. A few light corner and surface creases, largely to the white borders. VG Roman Freulich (1898-1974) Polish-born American photographer, known for his portraits and movie stills. Freulich worked extensively with James Whale and was the stills photographer for Frankenstein (1931), The Invisible Man (1933) and Bride of Frankenstein (1935). The classic science fiction horror film Bride of Frankenstein was the sequel to the 1931 film Frankenstein. Both movies starred Boris Karloff as the Monster and Colin Clive as Dr. Frankenstein, and the Bride of Frankenstein also starred Elsa Lanchester in the dual role of Mary Shelley and the titular character at the end of the film.
