The book was a gift from the Pope to a high dignitary in October 2021 at a time when the Pope's health was poor and he had difficulty writing. The original envelope used for the shipment (name and address of recipient excised) with secretariat of state stamp and Vatican postmark dated 20 October 2021 is included with the lot. Pope Benedict XVI died on 31 December 2022. Also included with the lot is a Vatican pre-printed card sent to Cardinal Angelo Sodano for his name day in May 2004. Sodano was Vatican Secretary of State, Dean of the College of Cardinals and the main collaborator of Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.

Warrant Officer Class 2 Johnson Gideon Beharry, VC, COG (born 26 July 1979) is a British Army soldier who, on 18 March 2005, was awarded the Victoria Cross, the highest military decoration for valour in the British and Commonwealth armed forces, for saving members of his unit, the 1st Battalion Princess of Wales's Royal Regiment, from ambushes on 1 May and again on 11 June 2004 at Al-Amarah, Iraq. He sustained serious head injuries in the latter engagement. Beharry was formally invested with the Victoria Cross by Queen Elizabeth II on 27 April 2005. Good condition. George Cross winner A Butson GC signed Internetstamps 2004 Johnson Beharry VC cover. Set with mint Beharry VC miniature stamp sheet on A4 Page with corner mounts so can easily be removed if required. On the evening of 26th July 1947, an American member of the Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition fell into a crevasse some 6 miles from Base[.] Two teams were sent to the rescue but the hazards of crossing a heavily crevassed glacier were much increased by darkness and it was not until 4 o'clock on the morning of 27th July that the crevasse into which the American had fallen was located. Butson immediately volunteered to be lowered into the crevasse where he found the American tightly wedged 106 feet down and suffering from shock and exhaustion. For nearly an hour he had to chip the ice away in an extremely confined space in order to free the American, who was brought to the surface and placed inside a tent. Butson then rendered the necessary medical aid and at dawn a return to Base was made carrying the American on one of the sledges. Good condition.
