Rowling’s Harry Potter series. The franchise has now expanded to encompass eight Harry Potter films, two Fantastic Beasts films, a sell-out stage play, three theme parks and a studio tour. As of 2016, the Harry Potter industry was estimated to be worth $25 billion. It is therefore very poignant to encounter the point at which all this began: J.K. Rowling’s first Harry Potter book was published in London, by Bloomsbury, in 1997. Unsure of its success, the publishers issued only 500 copies of the first edition, first impression in hardback. The book is the jewel in a Harry Potter collector’s crown. This copy, being one of the 500 first impression hardbacks produced, has the numberline reading 10 9 8 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 on the publisher’s imprint page, the publisher is listed as Bloomsbury, the error of ‘1 wand’ is listed twice in Harry’s school equipment list and ‘Philosopher’ is misspelt ‘Philospher’ on the lower cover. It is an exceptionally rare book to find. Wendy Cooling's review on the upper cover states: "A terrific read and a stunning first novel", another key issue point of the first edition, first impression. The book is indeed a story that has captured the hearts of generations around the world, with this copy representing the birth of a true classic.

RARE Kurt Tank (1898 1983) was a German aeronautical engineer and test pilot who led the design department at Focke Wulf from 1931 to 1945. He was responsible for the creation of several important Luftwaffe aircraft of World War 2, including the Fw 190 fighter aircraft, the Ta 152 fighter interceptor and the Fw 200 Condor airliner. After the war, Tank spent two decades designing aircraft abroad, working first in Argentina and then in India, before returning to Germany in the late 1960s to work as a consultant for Messerschmitt Bolkow Blohm (MBB). Kurt Tank survived the war and lived until 1983. It is possible to find his signature on various signed aviation stamp covers from the 1970s and early 1980s. However, it is rare to find his genuine wartime signature on a period photocard that shows him in Nazi Party uniform. This is a rare genuine wartime autograph, signed on a black, white photocard measuring approximately 5 inches x 3.5 inches. In good condition (please see photographs). Werner Schroer (1918 1985) KC Luftwaffe Ace Pilot WW2 credited with shooting down 114 enemy aircraft. He served in the Luftwaffe from 1937, initially as a member of the ground staff, until the end of World War II in Europe on 8 May 1945, by which time he had reached the highest ranks of combat leadership. Schroer was credited with 114 enemy aircraft shot down claimed in 197 combat missions, the majority of which on the Western Front, including 61 in North Africa and 22 in Italy. This figure includes 26 four engined bomber. A signed Midwest Postage Stamp and Coin Show Cover with a Chicago 1978 postmark. All autographs come with a Certificate of Authenticity. A Vintage stamp album, Americas and Oceania containing several hundred stamps, and 2 other international stamp albums (3). The Scot stamping coin albums have scuffs to the corners and edges, otherwise in good solid condition. All the stamps in this lot are from the late 19th/early 20th Century. The Scots albums are sparsely populated with varied world stamps and varied conditions. All are mounted. There is some evidence of book worm inside the volume 2 edition and damage to the first dozen or so pages. The Shallbacks album is in generally good solid condition which is more populated with stamps which are all mounted and most are in good condition. In total there are probably a few hundred stamps.
