Part blanket lining to the inside, and the remains of an original paper label. The lining to the armpit area on one sleeve has a war department ‘WD’ stamp and a broad arrow. Plus, a post WW2 Royal Artillery Officers mess jacket and waistcoat, the jacket being named inside to a ‘Captain Crompton’. The jacket has bullion rank stars and crowns to the epaulettes, with the waistcoat having gilt brass buttons displaying the Royal Artillery canon. 3 items. Condition: generally good to the Hussars tunic. The jacket is in generally clean and tidy condition, with no apparent moth damage to the exterior. The blanket lining has come away from the collar area, with the latter also being a little grubby from wear. The mess jacket has a few small moth holes to the sleeve and shoulder area, but the fabric remains clean and bright.

Lot 159

A circa 1990's Russian Military side cap, internal stamp of 1993 and a size 62, the cap has numerous applied gilt metal trade badges, many with enamel infills

Lot 149

A WW2 era, German M42 model helmet, possibly for the Luftwaffe. Marked with 2 code stamps; 0717 for the heating lot number (to the back skirt) and NS64 (to the left skirt), which represents the manufacturer Vereinigte Deutsche Nikelwerke factory in Schwerte, North Rhine-Westphalia. Of standard form, with the ‘raw edge’ on the shell, seen from 1942 through till the end of WW2. This would be an early production helmet, as from early 1943 both the lot number and manufacturer number were stamped to the back skirt. No decal applied to the left side, but there is perhaps some slight evidence of there once having been a luftwaffe eagle - you can observe an outline to the metal that matches the shaped of the standard luftwaffe decal. Part pigskin liner still present, attached to the zinc liner band. An ink stamp to the inside of the liner appears to read ‘B 57’. The original wearers name is also handwritten to the lining, but this is difficult to discern. A further oval ink stamp is marked to the inside of the dome of the helmet. Condition: the helmet shell is generally sound, with no dents or cracks. Some very light surface corrosion in a few places, to both the inside and outside. As per the above description and images, the liner is only partially present, with the front portion seemingly having been cut neatly away at some point in the past. The helmet is also minus its chinstrap.

Lot 377

Issue date of April 1895 stamped at the ricasso area, plus the VR stamp, War Department stamp, proof mark and a bend test mark. Both the pommel and throat area of the scabbard bear the matched number ‘91’. 2 brass rivets to the wooden handle, along with oil hole. The pommel is marked ‘N’ which would possibly indicate naval issue. Complete with leather scabbard, with steel throat and chape. Approximately 44cm length in scabbard, blade length 30.4cm. Condition: generally good. Clean blade with minor darkening in places. Minor contact knock to wooden handle, but otherwise complete. Split to the leather near the chape, but this doesn’t extend around the full circumference.

Lot 273

The Royal Marines Special Boat Squadron, an SAS sergeant and an Ammunition Technician Officer were parachuted in from an RAF Hercules.

Lot 144A

A WW2 era German EM / NCO’s Luftwaffe side cap or ‘Flieger Mutze’. Standard blue/grey wool body, with light grey rayon lining. Complete with embodied luftwaffe eagle and cockade to the front. Faint ink stamp date of 1941 and ‘Köln’ to the inside. The stamp also appears to size the cap at a 57. Condition: generally good, with some light service wear. The eagle and swastika have some light brown staining in places. The is some normal light age and service related wear to the nap of the cloth, but no apparent moth holes. The rayon lining has some normal sweat staining to the edge. Overall, a good example of its type.

Lot 385

A 1952 dated British Army issue ‘Crocodile” machete, by Martindale of Birmingham. With two flat plastic grips, secured by 5 copper rivets. Hole to the pommel, likely for securing a leather strap. Single edged blade with broad arrow mark, plus a number stamp of ‘KE8277’ and the date of 1952. Marked for Martindale on the blade, plus the Crocodile logo. Complete with a hide sheath and belt loop. Total length 51.3cm, blade length 37.9cm. Condition: generally solid, but with service wear to most parts. Darkening to the blade, plus some very minor surface corrosion. The copper nuts to the handle have verdigris to both sides. The leather sheath is complete, and shows normal service wear.

Lot 148

A fine quality, WW2 era private purchase Luftwaffe Officer’s visor cap, by Erel of Berlin. Manufactured by Robert Lubstein, and stamped ‘EREL PATENT STIRNSCHUTZ’ to the leather sweatband. To the underside of the sweatband there is also a date stamp of ‘18 MAI 1944’, and a size of 59 1/2. The cap is of traditional saddle shape, with silver piping, bullion quality Luftwaffe eagle, and winged oak leaves, with a metal cockade to the centre. Grey wool fabric construction, with mustard coloured silk. Celluloid diamond shaped panel stitched to the lining, but no visible makers details. Complete with cap cord, attached at east/west positions. Provence: acquired by the vendor’s father, while he served with the Royal Engineers during WW2. The serviceman was on bridge repair duties, south of Hanover, and discovered the abandoned former Glider School camp, Schafoldendorf while in the area. 2 photographs taken by the soldier (and dated July 1945), and included with the cap, show some wall paintings from the camp, with notes to the reverse side. Schafoldendorf later went on to become an RAF base. Condition: generally sound, with a little service and age wear. Small moth hole to the crown, plus a couple of ‘pin head’ sized moth nips. The cap is slightly out of round, likely from a long period of storage, and looks a little squashed to the north/south sides. The crown also has a little water staining to left hand side when looked at from above, which has given the surface a very slight brown tinge. Insignia is good, as is the cap cord and piping. The lining shows some age related brown staining, and normal staining to the leather sweatband. Slight stitching fault where the peak attaches to the body of the cap.
