China - rare 1920-1922 International Famine Relief 1 Cent Red and Blue unmounted mint stamps issued by The China Famine Relief Commission. Lot comprises three packs of ten sealed envelopes with each envelope containing 10 stamps separated by waxed paper interleaving. Also included is a display card showing an example of the 10 stamps to be found in the envelope, plus a used example and an empty envelope detailing the famine relief prevention cause, plus a smaller famine relief stamp and a cutting from a stamp magazine when Stanley Gibbons had previously purchased these stamps from the vendor's father many years ago and had sold them to stamp collectors. Condition Report: One pack of the sealed blue printed China envelope was opened already when received and is displayed as a block of 10 horizontally in the auction site image. China - rare 1920-1922 International Famine Relief 1 Cent Red and Blue unmounted mint stamps issued by the China Famine Relief Commission. Comprising an uncut sheet of 50 stamps, an almost complete sheet of 47 stamps and a sheet of 38 stamps. (Total 135 mint famine stamps). These stamps were split into packs of 10 stamps selling for 10 cents per sealed envelope and the purchaser was encouraged to affix one stamp to each envelope of normal mail which he posted to assist with the famine relief cause. Military - Royal Navy Second World War Corvette Model. An extremely well detailed Robbe radio controlled Corvette model of HMS Geranium of the Flower Class no.K16, length 52". Built by William Simon & Co.Ltd of Renfrew Scotland in 1940, used in summer 1942 to escort supply convoys to Malta in Operation Harpoon and Operation Pedestal between Straits of Gibraltar and Malta. Sold to the Royal Dutch Navy in September 1945 who renamed it 'Thetis'. Withdrawn from service in 1963. The vessel appeared as part of the 2012 Malta stamp issues commemorating the 70th anniversary of the World War 2 convoys to the island. Condition: Lot does not include radio control equipment. England & Wales.- Walker (John) Map of the Inland Navigation, Canals, and Rail Roads with the Situations of the various Mineral Productions throughout Great Britain, large detailed folding map with calligraphic title and dedication, compass rose and table of explanation, with inset map of Scotland in the upper right quadrant, engraving, an excellent crisp impression with with original hand-colouring, 1910 x 1570 mm ( 75 1/4 x 61 3/4 in), dissected and mounted on linen, some offsetting and light browning, edged with green linen, some edges a little rough, folding with marbled ends, ink stamp verso of 'Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation Library', presented in contemporary book-style slipcase, gilt and blind tooled, scuffed and very worn, 4to, 1830.
Aviation charts.- War Office (Geographical Section) Collection of 17 military aviation charts of England & Wales, France, and parts of Belgium, Netherlands, and Italy, all with numerous topographical details, altitudes, and distances, offset lithographs printed in colours, various sizes, all dissected and folding into uniform burgundy covers, each with printed label of Sifton Praed & Co. affixed to upper covers, labels with manuscript description of regions covered, many front pastedowns with stamp of 'B.L. Bathurst', [early 1940s]; together with 2 further aviation charts of England and Wales, with flip-through sections, and a complete set of 11 folding maps from the 'Automobile Association General Flying Map Quarter Inch Ordnance Survey', many with contemporary annotations, all with yellow printed labels to upper covers, all loose, presented in metal box, [mid 20th century] (Sm. qty.)Provenance:Pilot active in World War II; by descent to the present owner.
