A FINE CASED BRACE OF CAUCASIAN MIQUELET-LOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS, POSSIBLY MADE FOR A CHILD, late 18th / early 19th century, comprising one of 120-bore, with tapering 11 3/4in. barrel with gold- damascened foliate decoration at the muzzle, mid-point and breech, long tang and lock decorated en suite, the latter with maker's stamp, all-metal full stock encased in sliver chased in low relief with foliage and flowers, large globular pommel encased in silver decorated en suite, gold-damascened button-trigger, small lanyard ring, the other of 40-bore, with 12in. two-stage barrel signed 'LAZARINO COMINAZZO' on the octagonal breech section and decorated at the muzzle, girdle and breech with gold-damascened scrollwork (some loss to gilding), long tang and lock each with gold-damascened decoration, the latter with maker's stamp, three-quarter stock formed from a single piece of dark horn, globular dark horn pommel, gold-damascened mounts including short false ramrod and two barrel-bands, gold-damascened button-trigger, in old textile-covered close-fitted box lined in faded red velvet.

A 19th century mahogany and calamander crossbanded twin pedestal desk, By T.Willson of London, the rectangular top with tooled leather skiver and moulded edge above three frieze drawers and six short pedestal drawers with gilt metal ring handles, opposed by simulated drawer fronts, on plinth bases with recessed castors, the whole with inlaid boxwood lines, a drawer stamped: `T.Willson, 68 Great Queen Street, London`, 148cm wide, 68cm high, 75cm deep, Note: Thomas Willson is listed at 68 Great Queen Street, London as a furniture broker, auctioneer and appraiser (1799-1854). Some speculation exists as to whether Willson`s were furniture makers or brokers, notwithstanding a mention of a `Furniture Works` in the 1838-54 entries. See G.Beard & C.Gilbert, Dictionary of English Furniture Makers 1660-1840 p.985. Although Thomas Willson traded from this address between 1821 and 1829, the business subsequently continued as Mary Willson & Son and later Matthew Willson. The same stamp appears to have been used throughout.

Contemporary full red morocco gilt with armorial motifs, top edges gilt (extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: Anne S. K. Brown (label); Henry Arthur Johnstone (ex-libris stamp on suede liner and armorial monogram stamped in gilt on upper cover). With another volume containing works of related interest. A FLINTLOCK BLUNDERBUSS BY COOK, CIRCA 1800, with earlier brass barrel formed in three stages and flaring towards the muzzle, signed `Castle` over the breech, stamped with London view and proof marks, the barrelsmith`s stamp, the letters `EC` beneath a Castle, and engraved with flowers and foliage (rubbed), steel tang, signed stepped lock fitted with roller, figured walnut full stock cut with a pattern of pineapple chequering over the grip (small chips about the tang and at the fore-end, minor bruising), engraved brass mounts including stepped solid side-plate decorated with a trophy-of-arms, butt-plate and trigger-guard decorated en suite, the latter with acorn finial, a pair of moulded brass ramrod-pipes, and original horn-tipped ramrod with steel worm, 76cm; 29 7/8in . The barrelsmith`s mark appears to be unrecorded and is probably that of Edmund Castle who apprenticed to Peter Bolton in 1687. He was made Free of the Gunmakers Company in 1700, was a contractor to the Ordnance 1703-9 and is last recorded in 1747. See H. L. Blackmore 1986, p. 68.

PHILIPPE STARCK: A LOUIS 20 CHAIR, with moulded mauve plastic back, seat and front legs and chrome rear legs, with stamp marks to the base. Vitra. First designed in 1991 this chair is typical of Starck`s interest in combining contrasting materials in a piece of furniture. Showing a late 20th century state of mind this chair also dismantles into its different materials for ease of recycling.
