Residue where paper issue label has once been present; Lightweight 1918 1st pattern WRAF tunic with embroidered white on black cloth WRAF eagle arm badges, later type brass RAF tunic buttons to the front and lower pockets. Fixed waist belt to the tunic. White lined interior with ink stamp “RAF I” and tailors label to the collar. Tunic is accompanied by the matching khaki skirt with pockets, waist belt and press studs to side. Rare 1918 pattern khaki female pattern peaked cap with white embroidered 1918 pattern WRAF cap badge, thin brown leather chinstrap and quilted lining to the interior; Very rare ladies issue brown suede high heel shoes with laced front. Some of the uniforms show wear and small stitching faults but generally very good overall condition. Accompanying the uniforms with this group is an album of photographs and ephemera collated by Miss K Hargreaves. The first page of the album has inked dedication to “Kathleen Hargreaves” and date 28th October 1917. The album begins with a number of personal snap shot photographs of various members of the WRAF and RAF officers when stationed at No2 Stores Park, Eltham in 1918. Many of the images show the subjects in various forms of uniform, many of which are annotated below detailing the subject matter. The album then moves onto cover her service in France during the early post WW1 period, again with many interesting snap shot photographs of various WRAF members in camp, uniform shots and identified officers etc. She then moves onto the advance into Germany with good images of battle damage and you can only assume purchased postcards of German trenches etc. According to the album she served with the WRAF in Cologne, Germany from June – September 1919. This period again has been well documented through photographs of her comrades, camps, sports events, parades etc. During her time in Germany she travelled around and collected various postcard photographs of sites and historic landmarks etc. Towards the back of the album she has collected a number items of paperwork and ephemera including a Programme cover for a RAF Athletic Championship meeting in Cologne, August 1919, German bank notes, various cuttings from publications, letters and official documents relating to her service. It would appear that she continued to serve with the WRAF into the 1920’s. The album is typical WW1 period with leather bound covers and brass plaque bearing her initials. Also accompanying the group is a large framed and glazed period photograph of a WRAF girl, but we do not believe this to be Miss Hargreaves, probably a close friend or relation. The album has 188 images in total.
