She married Prince Frederick William of Prussia in 1857, when she was only seventeen. In 1888, when her husband succeeded to the throne, she became the Queen of Prussia, and after her husband's death in the same year, she became widely known as Empress Frederich. She was the mother of German Emperor Wilhelm II. Princess Victoria was an accomplished amateur artist and the Royal Collection holds a large number of her drawings and paintings, but works by her rarely come onto the market.

Alan Reynolds Stone, CBE, RDI (1909-1979). Reynolds Stone Engravings, first edition, London: John Murray, 1977, hardback with dust-jacket, housing four autograph letters signed by the artist to Richard Smart [a director at Arthur Tooth & Sons Gallery], commissioning the design of his personal bookplate (included on front pastedown). The first letter is dated 11 June 1946, the day on which the Post Office issued the 3D Victory stamp designed by Stone. 'Dear Sir, I should very much like to do your bookplate...For a more recent example of my work may I draw your attention to the 3D (not 2 1/2D) stamp issued today. Yours sincerely, Reynolds Stone'. In the following three letters, dated 11, 14 & 17 March 1947, Stone apologises for the delay, discusses the design, its eventual printing, and cost. 'Dear Mr Smart, I think you are right to demand a slightly more defined flourish to the t.' 'Did we ever say anything about my fee? I charge now £10-10-0 for a bookplate of this kind, but in view of the time I have kept you waiting I suggest £8-8-0 would be fairer!' Each piece of correspondence is on Bracken Cottage letterhead. The book also includes a loosely-inserted publisher's advertisement
