Collection of good quality linen including some ecclesiastical linen comprising mainly embroidered collars; a small quantity of linen embroidered initials ‘B G’; other linen embroidered with various initials; plain linen and damask items, some with fringing, and three large linen table or bed covers with lace inserts and embroidered. Together with a card embossed in gold on the front with the Coat of Arms of Pope John XXIII, the inside front printed in Italian and stamped ‘Segreteria di Stato di Sua Santita’ in purple; the facing side with a portrait of Pope John XXIII above a printed signature: ‘Joannes (?) (?) XXIII’ contained in an envelope printed as on the stamp and printed with the Coat of Arms. Pope John XXIII (1881-1963) and his papacy began 28th October 1958 until 3rd June 1963. By repute this linen has been passed down to a local family whose uncle was ‘a religious person in the Vatican’. (2 boxes)
