ORVIETO OCTOBER 1918, sold with foolscap typewritten itinerary of the arrival of the Japanese mission in Plymouth Sound at 0600 hours on 28 October 1918 with oval ink date stamp of the Commander in Chief, Devonport dated day prior Provenance: Presented by Fleet Admiral Prince Higashi Fushimi Yorihito (1867-1922) of the Imperial Japanese Navy to Commander Ignatius Joseph Hayes, R.N. Prince Yorihito was born of a cadet branch of the Japanese Imperial family and was adopted by the Meiji Emperor as a potential heir to the throne. Destined for a naval career, he attended Dartmouth Royal Naval College and subsequently the Ecole Navale. He commanded several ships before and during the Russo-Japanese War prior to joining the Naval General Staff. He represented the emperor at the Coronation of King George V in 1911 and made his last visit to England in October 1918, returning to Japan the following year. As new and with the all the appearance of having been permanently kept in the presentation wood box, never having been polished etc. The light wood box with a few minor knocks and scratches and slight crack in the lid, a box of superb quality
