Page, seven one pound notes, last issue, Somerset, and a ten shillings note Fforde, together with three German banknotes and two Post Office Savings Bank postage stamp saving sheets, mounted with Edward VII one penny stamps.

De Bello Africano liber I. De Bello Hispaniensi liber I. Venice: in aedibus Aldi, et Andreae Soceri, 1518 [but index dated 1519.] Second Aldine edition, 8vo (166 x 99mm.) Woodcut dolphin and anchor Aldus device on title-page and two colophons, 2 double-page woodcut maps and 5 full-page woodcut illustrations, italic type, initial spaces with guide letters. (Lacking all leaves prior to title, some soiling, browning and occasional light spotting, a few ink marginalia and occasional ink stains.) Near contemporary calf, elaborately panelled in blind to a foliate scroll design, the upper cover lettered in gilt ‘Coment.ce’ (rebacked and cornered, minor scuffs and holes). Provenance: unidentified early signatures to front pastedown and title; W. Deane Butcher (ink stamp to front pastedown). Note: the first Aldine edition was published in 1513. The text in this second edition uses the same preface by Aldus and the architect J. Jucundus, and the same woodcuts are used.

Engraved portrait, 87 hand-coloured plates on 81 leaves. (Occasional light spotting, some offsetting and occasional soiling, occasional marginal tears.) Contemporary boards (rebacked, extremities slightly bumped and scuffed). Provenance: F.W. Searle (bookplates); Enfield Public Library (ink stamp verso of titles, blind stamps to titles, the majority of plates and occasional other leaves).

Original orange cloth blocked in black (head and foot of spine bumped and discoloured), dust-jacket (soiled, torn with loss and slightly discoloured). Note: signed by the author to half-title above his ink stamp. – And seventeen other volumes, most of hunting and sporting interest (18).
