Woodcut dolphin and anchor Aldus device on title-page and two colophons, 2 double-page woodcut maps and 5 full-page woodcut illustrations, italic type, initial spaces with guide letters. (Lacking all leaves prior to title, some soiling, browning and occasional light spotting, a few ink marginalia and occasional ink stains.) Near contemporary calf, elaborately panelled in blind to a foliate scroll design, the upper cover lettered in gilt ‘Coment.ce’ (rebacked and cornered, minor scuffs and holes). Provenance: unidentified early signatures to front pastedown and title; W. Deane Butcher (ink stamp to front pastedown). Note: the first Aldine edition was published in 1513. The text in this second edition uses the same preface by Aldus and the architect J. Jucundus, and the same woodcuts are used.
