A Leica III, chrome, serial no. 2,50312 body engraved by retailer `J Lizars, Glasgow` below viewfinder, baseplate markings in English and, with Elmar f/3.5 50mm coated lens serial no. 906932 with engravings in feet, lens cap and hood, and leather erc with Lizars red and gold stamp inside lid and selection of instructions some with Lizars dealer`s stamps, body F/G with working shutter, lens marked in feet F/G, case F/G Body has signs of moderate use. Top plate is smart with a few marks on the accessory shoe, leatherette complete. Base plate not so good with bright marks, small area of chrome loss and wear around the tripod socket. Shutter curtains look good, with slow speeds working but accuracy not guaranteed; viewfinder and rangefinder clear but slight misalignment of r/f images. Retailer`s mark neat and does not detract. Lens cosmetically good, with smooth iris, focus a little stiff, optics clean but rear element is slightly loose. Case attractive, better than usual, but some wear and verdigris in places. Attractive collection of instructions including original Leica brochures on interchangeable lenses, accessories and reproduction devices, mostly G with no rust to staples, some with nice Lizars embossed stamps.
DARLING GRACE: (1815-1842) English Heroine who, with her father, rescued nine survivors from the grounded ship Forfarshire on 17th September 1838. Rare ink signature ('Grace Horlsey Darling') on a small slim oblong 12mo piece, quite possibly removed from a page of a handwriting exercise. Accompanied by a similar piece bearing the salutation 'Dear father & Mother' in Darling's hand. Together with an envelope in which the pieces were originally kept, annotated 'The enclosed autograph of Grace Darling's was given to....by Grace Darling's niece, Mrs. Dixon of Bamburgh' The envelope bears the small circular stamp of the Rawlins Collection in the upper right corner. Together with a good, small collection of A.Ls.S. comprising Francis Burdett Coutts (1770-1844) English Reformist Politician, A.L.S., Sir Francis & Miss Angela Burdett Coutts, in the third person, one page, 8vo, St. James's Place, 5th January 1839, to Grace Darling, asking her to accept £30 'as a Testimony of their sense of her & her Father's intrepidity & humanity'; Henry Ponsonby (1825-1895) British Soldier and Royal Court official, served as Queen Victoria's Private Secretary. Two A.Ls.S., both in the third person, the first one page, 8vo, Buckingham Palace, 14th October 1880, to Thomasin Darling, thanking her on behalf of Queen Victoria 'for the interesting biographical memoir' and the second to Mr. Atkinson, thanking him on behalf of Queen Victoria for a copy of The Journal of William Darling, both accompanied by the original envelopes; and a small series of A.Ls.S by the Duke (1) and Duchess (4) of Northumberland, 1880-86, most to Thomasin Darling and with references to her sister, Grace, and father, in one thanking her for a copy of Grace Darling - Her True Story and commenting 'it is a touching record of your heroic Sister and Father - their names will be ever dear to every true Northumbrian heart.' KRAY RON: (1933-1995) English Gangster who, with his brother Reg, were the foremost perpetrators of organised crime in London during the 1950s & 1960s. An original 9.5 x 6.5 oil painting, the image showing a remote house at the side of a coast, with a mountain backdrop. Signed ('R. Kray') in red oil paint in the lower left corner and dated 1972. With various official stamps and pencil annotations to the verso including a HM Prison Parkhurst, Newport, Isle of Wight stamp. Double matted in black above a photograph of the Kray twins to an overall size of 16 x 20. VG
PRINCESS ALEXANDRA: (1936- ) Princess Alexandra of Kent, youngest granddaughter of King George V and Queen Mary & OGILVY ANGUS (1928-2004) British Businessman, husband of Princess Alexandra. A good vintage signed 7 x 8.5 photograph by both Princess Alexandra and her husband individually, the image showing the couple standing and seated together in a three-quarter length pose. Photograph by Cecil Beaton and bearing his credit stamp to the verso. Signed by each in fountain pen ink to the lower photographer's mount and dated 1969 by the Princess. Framed and glazed in the original leather presentation frame by Jarrolds of London to an overall size of 9 x 11. VG

GEORGE V: (1865-1936) King of the United Kingdom 1910-36. A.L.S., George R.I., as King, two pages, 8vo, Buckingham Palace, 20th December 1923, to Lady Sandhurst. The King thanks his correspondent for her kind letter and for 'sending me those stamps which Sandhurst got while he was in India many years ago, they belong to the Native States.' He continues to add that he was sorry to hear about an accident 'which occurred when you were staying with my aunt in Isle of Wight' commenting 'Fractured limbs take such a long time to knit, I fear you must have suffered great pain, I trust that you are making good progress now & are up again.' EX Eleanor, Lady Sandhurst (d.1934), younger daughter of Matthew Arnold and the second wife of William Mansfield, 1st Viscount Sandhurst (1855-1921) Governor of Bombay 1895-1900 and Lord Chamberlain of the Household 1912-21 King George V was an avid stamp collector and was an Executive President of the Royal Philatelic Society from 1896-1910.

Two letters - from John Jacob Astor to Lord Iveagh, both hand written in black ink. One from The Estate of John Jacob Aster 19 Surrey Street, Strand and dated March 7th 1893, the other from Cliveden, Maidenhead and dated November 29th 1897. Both of social content, one amusingly thanking Lord Iveagh for some pheasants, the letter from the estate of John Jacob Aster dated 1893 has the accompanying envelope with franked stamp still attached.

The letter is in a hand written envelope with one penny stamp and post mark having been received at Thetford 9.45am December 12 1908.
