London 1887, with additional sunflower stamp and signature stamp, of circular form with crimped edge, the field with a repoussé rose motif, verso engraved PRESENTED TO MADELINE WYNDHAM ON HER MARRIAGE BY THE MAKERS, 14cm diameter, 2.2oztMadeline Pamela Constance Blanche Wyndham was born in 1869. She was the daughter of the Hon. Percy Scawen Wyndham and Madeline Caroline Frances Eden Campbell. Her mother (Madeline Campbell) was taught enamelling by Alexander Fisher (1864-1936) and was active in the field in the 1890s and early 1900s. She participated in the annual exhibitions of the Society of Women artists in London in 1896 and 1897. She also exhibited in the Royal Academy in London in 1898. Madeline Wyndham married Charles Robert Whorwood Adeane (son of Henry John Adeane and Lady Elizabeth Philippa Yorke) on 23 July 1888 in St. George's Hanover Square, London. They had seven children. She held the office of County Alderman (C.A.) for Cambridgeshire, the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Cambridgeshire and was invested as a Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1937. She died on 31st July 1941 at the age of 75. Given that both her mother and John Child were specialist enamellers and active at the same time, it is likely that the families were well acquainted - a theory borne out by this wedding gift from one family of craftsmen to another.
